JoAnne
Bowlin
April 19, 1928 – May 9, 2026
With hearts full of gratitude and sorrow, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, JoAnne Brock Wiles Bowlin, who took her final breath on May 9, 2026, unafraid and with an open heart as she entered into the loving arms of Jesus. She was surrounded by her devoted son, daughter, and daughter-in-law, whom she loved as her own.
A woman of extraordinary strength, beauty, grace, and faith, JoAnne lived nearly a full century as a force of nature - unyielding, loving, spirited, and unforgettable.
JoAnne was born on April 19, 1928, in Cleveland, Oklahoma, to George and Beulah Brock. She was the youngest of three children, with two older brothers, Bob and George. She loved telling hilarious stories about growing up in the country with brothers who would "let her" be the first to test out the new tire swing or float on the raft they had built! Those stories reflected the humor, resilience, and joy she carried throughout her life.
At an early age, JoAnne accepted the Lord and remained deeply devoted to her faith throughout her life. For as long as her family can remember, she began each day with her morning devotionals and lived her faith not just in words, but in the way she loved and cared for others every day.
She was a cherished daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. JoAnne married George "Tiny" Wiles on June 5, 1947, and they remained devoted to one another until his passing on November 6, 2002. She often said he was the love of her life. On February 16, 2008, she married Gene Bowlin, and together they shared many wonderful years traveling, taking cruises, entertaining friends, playing games, and making treasured family memories until his passing on December 12, 2023.
JoAnne's greatest joy was always her family. Her unconditional love for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren was unmatched. She spent countless hours building forts, playing dress-up, and creating magical memories with her grandchildren. Even in her later years, she could still be found crawling into tents or sitting on the floor playing with her great-grandchildren, all of whom adored their beloved "Mimi." Her friends were, also, important to her, and she loved entertaining, laughing, and spending time with those she loved.
Throughout her life, JoAnne embraced many roles. In her early years, she worked as a nurse, telephone operator, and business owner of Wiles Grocery and The Smart Shop. Her career highlight, however, was the more than 25 years she spent with Dillard's, where she became the company's first female store manager and later worked as a fashion buyer.
JoAnne also possessed a beautiful soprano voice and sang as a featured soloist in her church choir and at many special events, including weddings. She was gifted creatively as well, enjoying painting - especially china painting - and took pride in creating a beautiful home, inside and out. Always eager to learn something new, she even took up mah-jongg at the age of 96.
She was preceded in death by her parents; both brothers; and her husbands, George "Tiny" Wiles and Gene Bowlin.
She is survived by her son, David Wiles and wife Charlotte of Tulsa; her daughter, Gaye Magee of Tulsa; four grandchildren, Shane Wiles, Chad Wiles and wife Sarah, Cameron Wiles, and Ashley Davidson; and eight great-grandchildren: Max, Brendan, Carson, Addison, Bella, Trenton, Geneva, and Sydney.
A celebration of JoAnne's remarkable life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on May 18, 2026, at Parkview Baptist Church, 5805 S Sheridan Road, Tulsa, Oklahoma. Graveside services will follow at 3:30 p.m. at Woodland Cemetery, Crestview Dr., Cleveland, Oklahoma.
Though our hearts are broken, we rejoice knowing that Heaven gained a beautiful soul. Her legacy of faith, strength, kindness, elegance, humor, and unconditional love will live on in all who knew and loved her.
