JOE CAREY STALL, Colonel, U.S. Army Reserve (Retired), passed from this earth into the loving arms of our Father in Heaven on August 30, 2015. He is survived by Jo Alice, his bride of 61 years; five children: Leslie (Terry Widener), Roxanne Stall, Celia (Kendall Meadows), Doug Stall (JoAnn), and Eric Stall (Teri); fifteen grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Joe was born on April 27, 1925 to Myrtle Josie Holloway-Stall and Carey Julius Stall. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1943, writing to his mother from Basic Training that, "I think I'm going to like being in the Army." Forty years later, he retired from the Army Reserve as a Colonel. During World War II, Joe served as a machine gunner with Company K, 398th Infantry Regiment, 100th Infantry Division, entering Europe at Marseille, France in September 1944. He was captured on April 4, 1945 in Heilbronn, Germany, and liberated a month later. For his actions in combat, Joe was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for Valor.
Joe later graduated with an Engineering Physics degree from Oklahoma University. He accepted a job with Standard Oil Company of Indiana (Amoco), and retired in 1985 with several oil well drilling equipment patents to his credit.
He married Jo Alice Hale on April 4, 1954 in Ada, Oklahoma. They lovingly raised five children in Tulsa, and remained faithful members of Aldersgate United Methodist Church for nearly forty years, and more recently Asbury United Methodist Church. Joe also served as the Scout Master for Boy Scouts of America Troop 58. He was so mechanically inclined that Joe bought power tools, then made improvements to the tools before using them. Joe was a devoted husband, a wonderful father, the best "Granddad," a model citizen and a true Patriot. We will miss him dearly.
