Obituary

Joel Earl Montgomery Jr., known to most everyone as Jim, was born in Tulsa, OK on August 30, 1937. He went to be with the Lord on July 21, 2022.

Jim was active in the United Methodist Church. He served in many capacities within the church. He was very proud to have attended The Walk to Emmaus. He continued to grow in his Christian faith after the weekend and recruited many friends and family members to attend as well. His faith was important to him and he shared it openly.

Jim worked at American Transfer and Storage Company of Tulsa, OK until he retired. It was a family owned and operated business that started in 1920. They moved and hauled oversize and overweight loads as well as crane service and moving machine shops.

Jim loved car shows and showing off his cars. He had 2 convertible corvettes, a 1969 and 2003 model. Two 1950 Mercurys. And, a 1968 Chevy step side truck with a new motor and transmission.

Jim and Peggy lived in Mannford, OK most of their married life but later moved to Claremore, OK until they moved to The Linden Senior Living Community in Tulsa, OK. They also owned a home on a golf course in Casa Grande, AZ and would spend the winters there. Jim loved spending time on the golf course and the friendships that he made playing pickle ball and billiards .

Jim loved dogs. His last dog was a Sheltie named Sunshine. To say that he loved Sunshine would be an understatement. Sunshine was his constant companion at the Linden. The staff and occupants all knew Sunshine and loved him as well.

Jim leaves behind his wife, Peggy Montgomery. They were married for 63 years on June 27, 2022. Two sons, Duane and wife Mitzi Montgomery and Daryl Montgomery. Two granddaughters, Nikki and husband Mark Materna and Kate and husband Gannon Brown. Five great-grandsons, Lorenzo and Stallone Materna and Jett, Kruz, and Trip Brown. Sister Sue and husband Carl Shoemaker and brother Steve and wife Rita Montgomery.
