Obituary

Former Tulsa City Council member and civic leader, John David Benjamin, 74, passed away in Tulsa on December 20, 2017.

John was born in Arkansas City, Kansas to David and Marjorie Benjamin. He graduated from Wichita North High and Wichita State University where he was Senior Class President and a member of the golf team, and a proud member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. John moved to Tulsa in 1968 and began his active involvement in community affairs in 1975; serving over 50 businesses, governmental and non-profit organizations. John was a dedicated, longtime member of Tulsa Southside Rotary and a past president. He was also an active volunteer with the Tulsa Regional Chamber's resource campaign, and Tulsa Sports Commission. A special honor that John received in the last year was the renaming of his beloved Biscuit Acres Dog Park to Benjamin's Biscuit Acres Dog Park.

John is survived by his wife and soulmate of 30 years, Laura Benjamin; daughter, Piper Benjamin (Brad Toland) of Salt Lake; stepdaughter, Katie Pascuzzi (Casey) of Allen, Texas; brother, Tom Benjamin (Candy) of Wichita; sister, Jeanie Shields (Bryan) of Wichita; granddaughters, Sloan, Carmen and Courtney and grandsons, Beatty and Shaun. He is also survived by numerous friends, including, his skiing and golf buddies, fellow Rotarians, Executive of Tulsa Pals, fraternity brothers and other hundreds of lives that he touched through his governmental and community activities.

In addition, the Benjamin's have been graced with special blessings from the members of Asbury United Methodist Church. Their care and concern have been greatly appreciated by the entire family.

The Memorial Service will be 11AM, Friday, January 12, 2018 at Asbury United Methodist Church, 6767 S. Mingo Rd., Tulsa, OK.
