John Robert "Bob" Maslanka passed away early Monday morning after a lengthy battle with heart disease. Bob will be forever missed by his wife Ann Wickstrom Maslanka of Tulsa, his son Curt Maslanka of Chicago, and his daughter Jane Maslanka of Denver. Also grieving are his niece Jean Maslanka Kelley and nephew Kazmier Maslanka and his in-laws and cousins. Bob was predeceased in death by parents, Stanley and Esther Maslanka, and, very recently, his older brother Stanley C. Maslanka.
Born in Barnsdall, Oklahoma in 1933 Bob grew up loving the rolling hills, woods, and creeks of the heart of Osage County. Besides being an avid hunter and sportsman throughout his life, Bob showed an interest in science, particularly chemistry, early in life. After graduating from Barnsdall High School in 1951, he worked in oil refineries and on road crews through the Oklahoma summers to pay for his Education at Oklahoma A&M, now OSU, where he earned his BS in Chemical Engineering in 1955. Bob worked for the bulk of his career designing heat exchangers and compressors for the oil and gas industry, finishing his career as a salesman of the same.
Bob is remembered as a dry comedian, nurturing father, complex thinker, and the family member who could be counted on the keep family holidays interesting by bringing up politics and religion. He is deeply missed.
