JOHN FREDERICK BOWEN was born in Ft. Worth, TX on August 14, 1954 to Martha and C.B. Bowen. He passed away in Tulsa on April 22, 2018. He lived in San Antonio, TX and Castroville, TX.
He worked for Intertek in San Antonio for 32 years. He was in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War and assigned to the USS Kitty Hawk as a Hull Technician Fireman. He received a commendation from the Commanding Officer of the Kitty Hawk for outstanding performance of duty for participation in assisting in the evacuation of casualties from the one Main Machinery Room which resulted from a fire in that space on the night of 11 December 1973. During the night and morning hours he displayed a high level of professionalism and devotion to duty and ship under strenuous and demanding conditions. His performance was in keeping with the highest traditions of the U.S. Naval Service. John was a good and gentle man with a tender heart. One of his favorite things to do was to give to others, even those he didn't know.
John is survived by his sister, Sallye Nail, brother-in-law, Matt Nail, two nieces, Christy Ishmael and Lindsay Thompson, and Lindsay's children, Sadie and Micah Gattis.
