John D. Carrara, Sr., was born Oct. 7, 1918 in Chicago, IL to Domenick and Assension (Dalesio) Carrara; he passed away April 18, 2015 at the age of 96.
John worked for Crane Co. in Chicago before being transferred to Tulsa in 1955.
He was promoted to Manager in 1965 and retired December 1980. He was educated at Crane Tech High and attended Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago. In his retirement John took his talent to building stained glass windows for various churches, such as St. Clement and Newman Center in Tulsa and surrounding areas. He was a member of the Madalene Church since 1955.
John was inducted into the Army in July 1941 and trained at Ft. Leonard, MO; Mesa, AZ; Camp Luis Obisco, CA; and Fort Whianimi, HI for Jungle Training. He fought in New Guinea and made the first Wave Invasion of Luzon, Philippines. He received field commission to 2nd Lt. and was promoted to 1st. Lt. John received the Bronze and Silver Star for battles in New Guinea and a 2nd Silver star for action in the Philippines.
He is preceded in death by his wife Mary, 3 sisters and 1 brother. He is survived by his wife Mara; son, John, Jr. of Houston; and daughter, Linda Carrara of Dallas; two stepdaughters, Daleleen Davis of Rogers, AR and Debi Young of Tulsa; and many nieces and nephews
