John Mack Taylor
December 2, 1940-July 11, 2026
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of John Mack Taylor, who peacefully passed away surrounded by the love of his family.
John was born to Jesse and Bonnie Taylor on December 2, 1940, in Tarpon, West Virgina he was one of Ten children. Throughout his life, he was known for his strength, dedication, and unwavering love for his family. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, hard work, and cherished memories that will live on in the hearts of all who know him. Above all John loved and lived his life guided by his faith. His relationship with God was the foundation of his strength, kindness and generosity, and he shared that faith through the example he set for his family, friends and community.
At the age of twelve, he got paid fifty cents a day for breaking rock to put into chuck holes for the coal trucks. He worked alongside his brothers at their gas station in California. He worked at MK&O Bus Lines as a mechanic. Then, he decided to go out on his own with Sharon and started Taylor's Tire service, eventually expanding the tire service and establishing Taylor's Downtown Citgo full-service gas station in Downtown Tulsa for 30 years. He always helped anyone who walked through his doors and would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need. He led by example; was an excellent role model to everyone he crossed paths with and was known as jack of all trades. Everyone called him anytime they needed help or did not know what to do. When he was not working, you could find him in a tree stand at Deer Camp or spending time with family at the lake.
John met Sharon, the love of his life, and they were married in Tulsa, Oklahoma on June 12, 1976. They recently celebrated their Golden 50th anniversary surrounded by family and friends, what an amazing accomplishment and celebration.
John is survived by his beloved wife, Sharon Louise Taylor, and his loving children, Jessica Austin and her husband Justin of Grove, Bonnie Taylor of Jenks and the father of her children Jeff Richardson, and Melissa Marta and husband Ed of Berryhill, daughter in law Carrie Taylor of Bixby, John Taylor Jr., Dannette Newhouse along with his grandchildren, Cole Austin and Fiancé Maggie Newell, Chase Austin, Cooper Austin, Addylynn Austin, Taylor Austin, Harper Austin, Amauri Richardson and girlfriend Reagan Campbell, Kaidence Richardson, Kinslee Richardson, Haley Voss and Husband Colton, Brooklynn Maggard and her father Jeff Maggard, Megan Taylor, Johnny Mack Taylor, Madison Taylor, great-grandchildren, Lincoln Voss, Presley Voss, Mavrick Voss, extended family members, his only living sister Shirley Slechta, and many dear friends who will deeply miss him. His honorary family, Neal Jones whom he loved as a son and wife Pam Jones; Mark Nagle whom he loved as a brother and best friend and his wife Diana; Jim Grant whom he loved as a son, and his wife Sandy, Lisa Sherrell, Vic Sherrell, and all their children and their families.
John is preceded in death by his parents Jesse and Bonnie Taylor, multiple siblings and family members, sons Jeremy Taylor, Robbie Taylor, Joey Taylor, Shannon Taylor along with other family members.
John found joy in spending time with those he loved most. His family was the center of his life, and he took immense pride in the lives and accomplishments of his wife, children and grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He will be remembered for his caring heart, quiet strength, and the lasting impact he made on everyone, fortunate enough to know him.
When John and Sharon purchased their little slice of heaven Johns greatest joy in life was maintaining the property on his John Deere tractor which he loved and constantly complained later in life that Sharon was destroying to the point which he disconnected the battery so she could not use it.
He will forever be loved, deeply missed, and never forgotten. His memory will continue to live on through the lives he touched and the family he loved so dearly.
John's celebration of life service will be announced by the family later.
