Miller, John L., 79, died Thursday, February 7, 2014. John was born June 8, 1934,
Rogers, Arkansas to Cecil P. & Marguerite (Bell) Miller. John attended Arkansas University, earning his BS in engineering in 1957. He went directly into the Army and served in Germany as a lieutenant. He then completed extensive post graduate work, being just a few credits short of his masters. John referred to himself as a mechanical engineer, when his family and friends knew he really was a "rocket scientist". He was honored to work with Abe Silverstein in the development of the liquid fuel mixture that is still in use today. In April of 2012 John was inducted into the Arkansas Academy of Mechanical Engineering.
John met and later married Carolyn (Lydick) December 16, 1955 in Oklahoma City, OK.
John is survived by his wife, Carolyn, son, Mike Miller, his wife Ana, his aunt Billie Knotts and his cousin Harrell Miller.
John was an avid golfer having played golf all over the world. He was a very giving person who was a Scoutmaster, went to Philmont Scout ranch numerous times, taking the trek twice. He and his wife Carolyn both earned the Silver Beaver award. Later in life John volunteered at Page Belcher golf course as well as being active with Meals on Wheels, the American Red Cross, and was always generous with his time and resources for a worthy cause. He was always there for his friends if they were in need.
A memorial service will be held 4 p.m., Thursday, February 13, 2014, Moore's Southlawn Chapel, 9350 East 51st Street, Tulsa, OK 74145. In lieu of flowers
