John Andrew Minielly, M.D. 1937-2026
John Andrew Minielly, M.D., age 89, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, passed away on October 6, 2026. He was born in London, Ontario, Canada, in 1937 to the late Dr. Herbert and Janet Minielly.
John graduated from the University of Western Ontario Faculty of Medicine in 1962 and trained in pathology at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. He began his career at St. Joseph's Health Centre and the McMaster University Faculty of Medicine in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. In 1980, he moved his family to Tulsa to serve as chief of anatomical pathology at St. John Medical Center. He was a co-founding member of Regional Medical Laboratory and a clinical professor of pathology at the University of Oklahoma, and he retired in 2012.
John's greatest passions were his family, his community, and his career in pathology. In 1964, he married his life partner and best friend, Patricia. Together they set out to raise their three sons, Christopher, David, and Geoffrey, with a goal to "set them free but not adrift," and to "give them wings to fly but roots to return to." John and Pat traveled the world and spent several months each year at their summer home in Norway Bay, Quebec, renewing their Canadian roots and family ties.
John gave generously of his time to his church and his community. He served as an elder at Southminster Presbyterian Church and as a board member of the Tulsa Day Center for the Homeless and the Tulsa County Medical Society Foundation.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia; their three sons and their families: Christopher and Moira (Gallagher), and their daughter, Katherine; David and Mary (Illig), and their sons, Alec and Matthew; and Geoffrey and Elizabeth (Willson), and their daughters, Maeve and Claire.
A celebration of John's life will be held at Southminster Presbyterian Church, 3500 South Peoria Avenue, Tulsa, on Friday, October 23rd at 11 am, reception to follow. Graveside burial at 2 pm, Calvary Cemetery.
