John Milton Rice Workman passed from this life on September 1, 2021, at the age 63, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. A native Tulsan, he was born on October 24, 1957 to his proud and loving parents Sue Ann and Milton Rice Workman. He was the older brother to Edward Woodrow Rice Workman.
John married Susan Elaine Carpenter in 1978 and they had two children together, a daughter, Kathryn Margaret Workman, and a son John Milton Rice Workman II. Although John and Susan later divorced, John remained active in his children's lives.
Growing up, John was a member of the Boy Scouts, DeMolay, and the Tulsa Regional Oklahoma Grotto. He also earned his brown belt in karate and learned to play the piano. John graduated high school from Cascia Hall in 1976.
John earned a bachelors degree in Pre-law from Oklahoma State University and a second bachelors degree in Accounting from Langston University Tulsa. He earned an associates degree in Web Design from Tulsa Junior College. He also learned how to drive a truck and had a CDL license.
Throughout his life, John held several jobs in the fields of law enforcement, information technology, accounting and hospitality. His latest job was as a security guard. While he working on the job, he found and rescued his beloved Princess from life as a junkyard cat. He enjoyed being a security guard and worked until his health required him to retire early from the workforce.
He was a member of Cornerstone Church in Tulsa.
John had many interests and hobbies that he pursued with tenacity and passion.
He was an avid collector and collected books, cards, collectible toys and video games among other things. He loved music and was always listening to his extensive music collection. He also enjoyed playing music and, in addition to his piano skills, he taught himself bass guitar.
He learned to throw darts and played competitively in tournaments around Tulsa
He also loved hanging out with his children, driving around in his car, his cats and Tulsa, where he has lived almost his entire life.
John is preceded in death by his grandparents Helen and David Kimball and Etta and Harry Workman. Also preceding him are his parents Sue Ann and Milton. He will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by his brother, Ed, and his children Kathryn and John.
