John Roberts, Jr. passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on January 3rd, 2015. He was born in Jenks, Oklahoma on December 22nd, 1920. He was a World War II veteran; he enlisted in the United States Army at the age of 21, and served our country as a Corporal, Gun Commander, and Army Ranger for 42 months and 13 days in the South Pacific. Upon his return to Oklahoma, he married the love of his life, Mary Jean Berkman, who he lovingly called Scatterbrain; on December 16th they celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary.
He returned to work as a manager at Safeway stores. He was a sales manager at Empire Foundry before opening his own business, Roberts Manufacturing Company, in 1964.
He was an active outdoorsman; he enjoyed fishing and camping. He was a wrestling coach at Whiteside Recreation Center from 1963 to 1968, and a member of Pilgrim Rock Masonic Lodge #522 for over fifty years.
John retired from Roberts Manufacturing in 1985, and moved to Flint Ridge where he enjoyed many years of circle dancing, church fellowship, SCORE, and served on the board of the Oklahoma Scenic River Commission.
In 1996, John and Mary Jean moved to Owasso to begin the next phase of their retirement. They were active members at First Presbyterian Church; John served as an elder and trustee.
John was a strong, caring, hardworking, devoted family man with a keen sense of humor. He will be missed greatly.
John is survived by his wife Mary Jean, son and daughter-in-law, Patrick and Elizabeth. Daughter Suzanna and her husband Kinney, daughter Peggy Pinkston, daughter Janine Davies and son-in-law Mark, 8 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and many close friends. In lieu of flowers, please donate to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
