John W. Shannon, 89, died peacefully on February 7, 2014. He was born on September 23, 1924 in Beggs, OK to Raymond W. and Edna Swain Shannon. He graduated from Winfield High School 1943 and Oklahoma A & M College 1949 with a petroleum engineering degree. On May 25, 1957 he married Barbara Mills in Corpus Christi, TX and they moved to Tulsa where they lived except for brief times in Houston & Midland, TX. He was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church. He was design engineer for the liquefied petroleum gas storage cavern built under the Tulsa refinery in 1966. He retired from SUNOCO in Tulsa 1986 after 35 years. He is survived by 2 children, Debbie Shannon and fiancé Tony Cote, Waterville, ME; Susan DeLozier and her husband, Mark, Chelsea, OK; granddaughters, Michelle Smith, Allentown, PA & Jennifer Smith, Rochester, NY; Whitney DeLozier and Cassie Bridgforth, OK; brother-in-law Leonard Aleman, and nephews, Jeff, Jerry & Tom Aleman and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, sister, Mary Lee Aleman, NC and son John Mills Shannon, Tulsa. A private burial service will be held later at Memorial Park Cemetery in Muskogee.
