Obituary

Johnny Earl Shields Jr. (John) passed away on October 21, 2021, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was born on November 21, 1932, in Tulsa to John Earl & Mabel Ruth Shields. He grew up in Tulsa and graduated from Will Rogers High School in 1950. Upon graduation, John served in the United States Army and attended the University of Tulsa.
On April 15, 1960, he married the love of his life, Betty Ann Murray. Together they had two children: a daughter, Stacy and a son, Matthew. They were married 61 years before Betty's death in December 2020.
John worked as a draftsman for the majority of his professional life. He owned and operated John Shields Company, which is still in operation. He was an avid reader, snow skier, and traveler. John & Betty enjoyed their favorite destinations of Australia, London, and Ireland. He also enjoyed spending time in his woodshop and working in the yard. John was an avid supporter of the University of Tulsa as a member of the Tulsa Hurricane Club. In addition, you could always find him supporting his grandchildren in all their activities.
John is survived by his daughter, Stacy and husband Paul; his son, Matthew and wife Jackie; six grandchildren, Josh Gill, Zachary Gill, Spenser & wife Sydney Gill, Ethan & wife Emily Shields, Emily Jantz & husband Matthew, and Madeline Shields; three great-grandchildren, Amelia & Maddox Shields, and Baker Gill. One sibling, Bobby Shields; and multiple nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Shields, his parents, John & Mabel Shields, brother George Shields, sisters Kathryn Odom and Nancy Harrison.
