John Thomas Carter of Broken Arrow, OK, went to be with the Lord on August 25, 2017, after battling cancer. He was born on March 19, 1942, to William Thomas and Ruby (Bass) Carter of Bellvue, CO. John grew up with his brother, Richard, on the family farm. He earned an accounting degree from Colorado State University and moved to Tulsa after graduation to work for Amoco Corporation. He started in accounting and later moved to computing where he rose to Senior Systems Analyst. After moving to Tulsa, he married Lois Brown and they were proud parents of son, John Eric Carter. He later married Judith Ilene Morgan of Tulsa and they enjoyed 43 years together.
John was a quiet Christian man with a dry wit who tried to always say positive things about everyone around him. He was active with his son, Eric, both in soccer, where he served as a referee, and in Boy Scouts where he served as Scoutmaster for Troop 4 and led his son and others toward their Eagle badges for several years. John earned several scouting awards long the way, including the Silver Beaver award in 1989. He enjoyed woodworking and volunteered with local groups to make donated toys for children.
In later years, John volunteered as treasurer of his church. He also joined his wife in her hobby of growing African violets and worked in the African Violet Society of America where he served as national president in 2013-2015. He also enjoyed growing roses and served as president of both local clubs at various times. He and Judy both served as violet judges and enjoyed traveling to judge area shows where they made many friends.
John lived a quiet life of constant service to others and he will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Survivors include his wife, Judy, son Eric and wife Ceci along with their two children, Erica and Evan, all of Broken Arrow, and brother, Richard, of Bellvue, CO along with his two daughters, Shari (Ron) Stroup and Denise (Kirk) Fry and their children. His parents preceded him in death along with granddaughter, Abby Faith Carter.
