Dr. John H. Wright, Jr., aged 90, passed away in Tulsa, Oklahoma on May 11, 2024. He was a beloved Husband, Father, Grandpa and Friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
John was born on April 30, 1934 to John H. Wright, Sr. and Ocie Mae (Disheroon) Wright in Hulbert, Oklahoma where he spent his childhood, graduating from Hulbert High School in 1952. He went on to attend Northeastern State University for three years and in 1955 was accepted to the University of Tennessee College of Dentistry, graduating with a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree in 1958.
John moved to Tulsa and worked as a dentist for the Tulsa County Health Department for a year. He met his wife Patsy Hamilton, and after a 6-month courtship, they married on October 18, 1958. They moved to Wagoner where John opened a dental practice and they raised three children. He retired in 1996 shortly after his wife's death.
John was a devoted family man, who loved his family above all else. He loved helping people and was very involved in his community. He held positions on the City Council, was Vice Mayor, and was a 40-year board member of the First Wagoner Bank & Trust. He was active in the Wagoner County Democratic party and was a delegate to the 1964 and 1968 Democratic National Conventions. John was appointed to the board of the Grand River Dam Authority in 1973, serving as Chairman of the Board for several terms.
John raised thoroughbred racehorses and loved to watch them race at racetracks all across the country. He was a hard worker and a believer in always doing the right thing. He loved to play golf and to travel, and especially loved going to the beach in Florida.
John is survived by his wife, Sue, his two daughters Kimberly Wright and Sylynn Wright Garza and her husband Joe, grandchildren Kathryn Wright Foley and her husband Alex, John H. Wright, IV and his wife Trista, Stephanie Garza and Amy Garza.
John was preceded in death by his wife Pat, son John H. Wright, III, his parents, brother David Ray Rogers, and sister Leona Rogers McCullough.
Graveside services will be held May 16th at 11:00 am at the Pioneer Cemetery in Wagoner.
