Johnnie Mack Duvall, loving father, son and brother, died on May 10, after suffering complications from Alzheimer's. He was 73.
Duvall, a focused, hard-working executive who earned his MBA, was also a devoted father who taught his children how to swim and dive, ride a bike, dance and throw a football.
He was born on Feb. 5, 1943, to Frances and John Duvall in Tulsa and attended Edison High School, where the athletic teenager quickly excelled at football, joining the varsity team as a junior. At age 14, he had earned enough money to buy his first car -- before he had his driver's license.
Duvall played football at the University of Tulsa. After a knee injury, he transferred to Oklahoma State University where he earned a bachelor's in accounting and management, and later, an MBA from the University of Chicago.
He last worked at Sandvik Materials Technology as a manager of the oil and gas division. He was president of Ensco International and president of Wilson Industries.
Growing up, Duvall loved to tease his sisters and brother. His sister Cindy fondly recalls how she would bake brownies and order, "Hands off!" A piece would mysteriously disappear, and Johnnie Mack would write a note: "Did you take that?"
The family loved music and would often start a jam session with his mom on mirambas and he on drums.
A handsome, popular student, Duvall never missed attending church. "He loved church," said Cindy. "He was a real faithful person. He would come in at night and listen to 'He's Only a Prayer Away' over and over."
A long-time member of Second Baptist Church in Houston, Duvall sang in the choir and after moving to Tulsa in October 2014, joined a choir there.
Duvall is preceded in death by his father John B. Duvall. He leaves behind his children John David Duvall, Meredith Duvall Hendee, Amy Sit Duvall and Sara Sit Duvall; his grandson Ethan Hendee; his mother Frances and stepfather Mel Bembenek; his siblings Nancy Vokoun, Cindy Duvall and Rick Duvall; and numerous nieces and nephews.
