Joseph Henry Hood was born in Springfield, Missouri on August 16, 1934, to William D. and Margaret Hood. He passed on August 25, 2023 at the age of 89. Joe was raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma with his siblings Dennis Lough, William, Margaret Ann and Martha Alice. He graduated from Will Rogers High School.
He married Helen Joyce Hodges on June 21, 1958 . Soon after, they started their family, having two sons, Joe and Mike. They were married for 62 years before she preceded him in death in 2021. Joe worked at T.D. Williamson and then Helmerich and Payne until he retired as International Logistics Manager.
Joe and Helen were members of Eastside Christian Church, where they raised up their boys to grow in faith. They also enjoyed gathering with their Sunday school class and made many life-long friendships.
They loved to travel to Hawaii and cruise, but especially enjoyed visiting every major league baseball park. He was an avid Boston Red Sox fan. More than that, he was a fan of his own kids, coaching them in whatever sport they were pursuing. Then when his six grandsons came along, his calendar was full because he made a point to be at any and everything they were involved in.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, wife and daughter-in-law, Sheila. He is survived by son, Joe and his wife, Gail; Mike and his wife, Kim; six grandsons, David and his wife Kirstin; Michael (Tyler), Kyle, Scott and his wife, Danielle; Matthew and his wife, Samantha; and Christian and his wife, Alexis. He is also survived by six great-granddaughters - Elle, Rose, Andie, June, Leo and Collins, and one great-grandson, Max.
Visitation 4-8PM, Tuesday, August 29, 2023 at Moore's Southlawn. Services will be held on Wednesday, August 30, 2023, at Moore Southlawn Chapel at 10:00, followed by a graveside service at Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Moore Southlawn.
