Obituary

Joseph Oliver Thompson left for heaven on Thursday, December 15, 2016 at the age of 87.
Joe had a personality that could fill a room and a loud, infectious laugh that made everyone smile. He loved to share stories about his rich Kaw Indian heritage, including wonderful stories about his father who was the last elected honorary chief of the Kaw Indian nation, and what that personally meant to Joe as a child. As a young man, Joe served as a Corpsman in the Navy and enjoyed seeing the world. He was a member of John Knox Presbyterian Church in Tulsa for many years where he served as both elder and deacon. In addition, Joe was a member of Tulsa Rotary Club where he forged many friendships and served on committees such as "Up With Trees," which has planted thousands of trees in the Tulsa area. Joe will be fondly remembered for his generosity and as a mentor to many trying to find their way in life.

A memorial service to celebrate Joe's life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, December 19th at John Knox Presbyterian Church. A reception will immediately follow in the fellowship hall.

Joe is preceded in death by his father Ernest Emmett Thompson, his mother Olavene Bellmard Thompson Paris, his brother John, and his beloved wife Kathleen.

Joe is survived by daughter Pamela Chamblee of Moore; daughter Joi Morgan and husband Joe of San Angelo, TX; stepson Ron Brown (and the late Jeri Lynn) of Wichita, KS; stepdaughter Diana Waters and husband Charles of Oklahoma City; stepdaughter Kerry Reeves of Oklahoma City; sister Mary Elizabeth Bryan of Brandon, FL; special niece Trish Thompson of Tulsa; and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: John Knox Presbyterian Church of Tulsa, the Kaw Indian Nation, Tulsa Rotary #2500, or a favorite charity.
