Obituary

Josephine Agnes Miller, 92, of Tulsa, passed away May 26th, 2023. She was born Wednesday, December 31, 1930, in Jourdanton, Texas, to Aloys and Hermina Dylla. She was the eldest of three sisters and two brothers. Josephine graduated from Sul Ross State University with degrees in music and education. She was a talented musician, playing multiple instruments and participating in local bands as well as the San Antonio Symphony Orchestra. While working as a teacher in Big Lake, Texas, she met her husband Homer. They were married June 5, 1953. After a few moves, they settled in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1958. They became members of the newly formed parish, St. Pius X Catholic Church, and all their children attended the parish school. When the children were old enough, Josephine became a volunteer music teacher at St. Pius X, and taught continuously for 20 years. In addition to teaching, from the very beginning of their lives in Tulsa, Josephine was very active in all aspects of parish life, including singing in the choir, cleaning and decorating the church, leading a bible study group, putting on musicals, serving on the Parish Council, becoming an Extraordinary Eucharistic Minister and many more roles. She also enjoyed participating in many creative talents such as sewing, needlepoint, crochet, gardening, and creating exceptional stained glass work. She was well known for her baking skills, particularly her apple pies and homemade breads. Josephine loved gifting her creations to family and friends. Perhaps her greatest talent was her gift for making others feel special and appreciated, as was evident in the many and long lasting friendships she developed. In later life she enjoyed traveling with her sister Theresa, visiting many parks and cities in America, as well as Canada and Europe. Josephine is survived by her four children: Charles Miller and wife, Liz, Jo Lynch and husband, Ken, Janet Sjulin and husband, Mike, and Patricia Dietz and husband, Rich. She has five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
