Joy Janice Brown was born May 4th 1932 in Eureka Springs, AR. Joy passed on Monday February 2nd, 2026 in Tulsa, OK. She was proud of her heritage as a native "Eurekan" along with her two brothers. Joy was the youngest of her family, born to Jefferson William Harp and Jessie Rae (Ramey) Harp. She met her sweetheart James Edward Brown while visiting a friend in Chouteau, OK while in high school. James joined the Army and ended up in Japan after World War 2. They were married after he returned from service.
She was preceded in death by both parents, her husband James and her two older brothers Morris Clay Harp, sister-in-law Gloria Harp, brother Marvin Lee Harp and sister-in-law Patty Harp. She is survived by her son James Michael Brown and grandsons Jordan Micah Brown and Jeffrey Michael Brown along with a nephew and niece and many great nephews and nieces.
She had a serving spirit and spent a good portion of her life personally caring for and serving others. She was voted Ombudsman of the year for the greater Tulsa area for her volunteer service at Four Seasons Nursing home and personal support for many individuals.
Scouting became a big part of her life as Jim was involved at a young age. When he got into Boy Scouts the serving scoutmaster stepped down after Jim's second year and James stepped in to help out. He "helped out" as scoutmaster of that troop for 24 years. Many years after Jim had finished scouting. It was something James & Joy enjoyed being able to work together to support the young men. She was right there beside him, supporting him with all the paperwork, record keeping, scheduling and "mothering" of young boys from broken homes. She was instrumental in getting several other mothers together and they would go along with the troop at times on their weekend camp outs.
She enjoyed going on cruises along with fishing and camping. She and James purchased a camper, and later an R.V. and enjoyed going to area lakes after he retired to fish, hike and spend time together.
Joy trusted Christ as a young girl while visiting Calvary Baptist Church in Tulsa. She spent the rest of her life honoring God and serving Him. She was an example for many people and was faithfully involved in serving in her church until her last few years when her health wouldn't permit attending in person. She leaves a strong example to those that knew her (spirit of love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness and temperance) showing steadfastness to the end. Well done, thou good and faithful servant!
Funeral service will be 10:30am, Tuesday, February 10, 2026 at Moore's Southlawn Chapel, 9350 E. 51st Street, Tulsa.
