Obituary

Joy Evelyn (Patton) Disler, 82, passed away Saturday, October 29th surrounded by her family. Her name was perfect for her and she brought joy to her family, friends, and everyone around her. Joy was born February 26, 1934 in Monett, MO, graduated from Monett High School, and was the oldest of 7. Her mother owned a restaurant in Monett for many years where Joy worked alongside her mother and siblings. She enjoyed cooking and was a fabulous cook making and sharing some of the best pies and pastries around. Joy was preceded in death by her husband, Loyd W Disler and supported him in building several successful businesses. They owned, bred, and raced thoroughbred horses in Oklahoma, Kentucky, and California and enjoyed traveling to races. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and volunteer Joy touched a lot of lives in Tulsa. She owned a ladies' clothing boutique, Joi's, in Jenks that was very popular for many years and operated two additional locations in Monett and Aurora, MO that were managed by her mother and sisters. Joy was one of the first women on the Jenks Chamber of Commerce and started the annual Jenks Christmas Parade. She was the first to coin the name, "Jenks America", using it in her store's radio and newspaper advertising. Active in Tulsa politics, Joy assisted her late husband when he was Republican County Chairman for two terms, served as a "Goldwater Girl", and was a member of the Tulsa Republican Women's Club. She had the distinct privilege of meeting and visiting with Ronald Reagan in Tulsa for a fundraising dinner and when Loyd was a delegate to the Republican National Convention. Joy gave unselfishly of her time serving on the board of Tulsa Boys Home, Tulsa Cerebral Palsy Association, the Jenks High School DECA program, and other organizations. She and her late husband were also charter members of Asbury United Methodist Church. Joy was preceded in death by her parents, Faye (Patton) Hultgren, Winfred Patton, and Carl Hultgren; Loyd Disler, husband; Douglas Disler, son; Sharon Welde and Sandra Parrish, sisters; David Patton, brother. She is survived by Jeff Disler, son; Becky Disler-Taylor, daughter, both of Tulsa; Jerry Patton, brother; Linda Holloway of Monett, MO and Rita Schallert of Purdy, MO, sisters; eight grandchildren, Lori Glassco, Chad Disler, Wendy Decorte, Jamie Froncek, Corey Disler, Jacob Disler, Ryan Rowland, and Joshua Taylor; fifteen great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. Visitation at Moore's Southlawn Wednesday with services at South Tulsa Baptist Church at 2 pm Thursday.
