Joy Elaine Shaw, 90, of Tulsa, died on Monday, March 5, 2018. Oldest of three sisters, she was born in Oklahoma City on 9-18-27 to Clayton Lester Estes and Ora Katie Young Estes.
She married Charles Shaw on June 3, 1947 while they were students at Oklahoma State University. After raising three children, she began working as an executive secretary for the accounting firm Arthur Young (later Ernst & Young) in both Oklahoma City and Tulsa from 1971 to 1987. During her time in Oklahoma City, she was a member of Mayfair Church of Christ.
Returning to Tulsa, she joined Park Plaza Church of Christ in 1990 and attended both in Jenks and Tulsa, supporting its mission work and organizing its library. She was honored by the church in 2012 for her work.
After her retirement, she did extensive genealogical work on her family and produced invaluable reports for her family. She was able to trace one line to 1495.
At Burgundy Place, her home for ten years, she helped with the library and played Mah Jongg and bridge while making many wonderful friends among the residents and staff. As an amateur artist, she submitted a painting in a Burgundy Place contest and it was chosen and used on a holiday card by Burgundy's management, Senior Star Living.
She is survived by three children: Cinda (Philip) Viles of Tulsa, Stephanie Shaw of Philadelphia, PA, and Tim (Cheri) Shaw of Edmond, OK; five grandchildren: Amanda Viles, Peter Viles, and Ross Viles, all of Tulsa, Callan Sturgis of Philadelphia, PA, and DaRae (Josh) Shandy of Tuttle, OK, and three great-grandchildren: Tia Hollon of Tulsa, Hartlee Shandy and Rome Shandy, both of Tuttle, OK.
A service of remembrance will be held on Saturday, March 10, 2018 at Park Plaza Church of Christ, 5925 E. 51st Street, Tulsa, at 11 a.m. Her ashes will be interred at Memorial Park Cemetery in Oklahoma City. Moore's Southlawn 918-663-2233 share memories at
