Obituary

Joyce Adrienne (O'Brien) Clements died peacefully in her sleep at Ascension St. John Hospital on August 12, 2020 in Tulsa, OK at the age of 66 after a recent diagnosis of Stage 4 Metastatic Malignant Melanoma of the Brain. Joyce is survived by her two daughters, Adrienne Clements, husband Frederico Geib and his two daughters Odara and Antonella of Austin, TX & Alicia Ward, husband Mike Ward and their son Finn Ward of Austin, TX; siblings, Cheryl Phelps of Tulsa, OK, Gail Pyfrom of Tulsa, OK, Noreen Cacini (George) of Downers Grove, IL. Joyce is also survived by her boyfriend of over three years, Tom Stone. Joyce is also survived by her nieces and nephews Kristin Major (Chris, Katie and Allison), Charles Pyfrom (Michelle, Avery and Grayson) Steven Pyfrom (Nadia, Paisley, Everett and London) and by the father of her children, Steven Clements. She is preceded in death by George Pyfrom, Marion Ruegg, Arlenne Ruegg, her parents Adrienne Shirley (Wartneberg) O'Brien and Charles Philip O'Brien and her favorite grandmother Lillian Wartenberg. Joyce was born in 1954 in Oak Park, IL to Adrienne and Charles O'Brien; Joyce was the youngest of their four daughters. She graduated from Wheaton Central High School in 1972. Joyce wed her high school sweetheart Steven Paul Clements in July of 1974. They then moved to Tucson Arizona in 1977 where she worked as a make-up artist on feature films. While living in Tucson, the couple welcomed their two children Adrienne Joy Clements in 1985 and Alicia Marie Clements in 1987. Steve and Joyce moved to Kingwood, TX in November of 1988 to raise their two daughters; there Joyce worked as a BeautiControl Cosmetics Consultant and had an independent skin care business. Joyce and Steve divorced in 1995. After Joyce's daughters graduated from high school Joyce moved to Tulsa, OK in 2005 to be closer to her oldest sister Cheryl and more extended family. Joyce worked as an Esthetician for many years in Tulsa, giving so many men and women the best skin of their life. During her years in Tulsa Joyce worked at Cancer Treatment Centers of America providing esthetician services + makeup services to patients and their families. Joyce always believed that you should be able to look good, even if you didn't feel good. She loved her work and was very passionate about helping those with cancer have a day, hour or moment where they felt absolutely fabulous. Joyce was thrilled to again find love and companionship in her final years with her boyfriend of 3 years, Tom Stone, who remembers her as a caring, beautiful, and passionate woman. Her children remember her as a beautiful, driven, fun but disciplined mother who encouraged them to pursue their goals, be strong women on their own and that a little bit of red lipstick is never a bad idea. Joyce was an accomplished esthetician and make-up artist and often gave out skin care and make-up advice to everyone. She also hand made some of her own skin care products - that not only were filled with love but also great ingredients to keep you looking your best. She believed in order to feel your best you should look your best. She was a generous, witty, strong, opinionated and always looked fantastic -she was such a caring individual who loved life and who was passionate about making the world beautiful one person at a time. She would always shoot you straight and always offer a helping hand. Joyce was always the life of the party and made an impression on everyone she met. She will be greatly missed but we know she is in Heaven looking down on us and reminding us to keep looking fabulous. THINGS MOM LOVED
Mornings - early bird so much energy - vacuuming, grocery shopping and dancing to her favorite upbeat tunes.
Shopping - loved great style at a great price
Water - the ocean, lake, pond, pool - swimming, scuba diving or just lounging in the water
Cooking - the most amazing flavors with no recipe - a feast when you thought you had nothing to eat and the best holidays meals ever.
Movies - epic classics (Star Wars, Indiana Jones, pretty much every musical)
Music - all the great divas (Barbara, Cher, Celine, Whitney)
Nutrition - healthy eating and so many vitamins
Creativity - costumes, decorations, themes, paint etc.
Being a Makeup Artist and Esthetician - caring for your skin and looking great should be for you and always moisturize :)
Reading/Books - a love for biographies or historical novels; avid library member
Animals - dogs especially (but not their fur) - the multiple Sandy dogs in her life

OTHER THOUGHTS FROM HER DAUGHTERS: She would give her opinion without flinching or apology and she was always willing to lend a helping hand when needed - cleaning, cooking, organizing or making you more beautiful. She may shoot you straight or say things that made you tilt your head but it was met with a hug and some comfort food. Mom wasn't going to let you think life would be easy but she did want you to enjoy the ride and look good and eat good along the way. More than once I remember mom in the kitchen making a balanced and delicious dinner followed by an always creative dessert, then prepping food for the next day after we went to bed and then back in the kitchen before everyone was awake. She loved to cook and ensured nutrition was tasty. She loved beauty and skin care. Mom loved to create. Keep creating Mom, we love you - forever and always your little girls - Adrienne & Alicia.
