Joyce Lee Mathews was born in Estes Park, CO, on September 15, 1928, and passed away at her home in Chouteau on July 17, 2018, at the age of 89 years. She celebrated her 70 years of marriage with Don Mathews, this past October 2. Mrs. Mathews attended the Pryor Creek Baptist Church and had also attended Faith Baptist Church in Chouteau. She helped found and was a long time member of the Bible Baptist Temple, in Tulsa, attending there from the founding in 1958 until moving to Chouteau in 1993.
She served as a Sunday School teacher and sang in the choir at Bible Baptist Temple for many years. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and cared for her family and home until very near the end of her life.
She made sure her daughters got to their piano lessons and practiced their piano lessons daily. She also sewed many of her clothes and her daughters' clothes as they grew up, including their prom dresses.
She was well known for her pecan pie and strawberry cake and delighted in making those and other specialties by request from her family and friends.
She is survived by her daughters, Donna Mathews and Deborah Henry (Mike Henry), well-loved grandsons Bradley (Krystal), Adam and Mitchell, dear great-grandsons Connor, Ethan and Garrett, precious great-granddaughter Taylor, many beloved nieces and nephews and many friends. She was Grandma Joyce to many others dear to her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald D. Mathews, by her father and mother, Henry Claude Bradley & Letha Louisa Green, sister, Loretta Anna Mae Bradley and brother Billie Eugene Bradley.
She looked forward to joining her husband and many, many other loved ones in heaven, and is happy and healthy with them there now. She wanted people to know she had a "gentle life."
Visitation will be 6-8 PM, Friday, July 20, 2018 at Pryor Creek Baptist Church, 32 S. Adair St., Pryor, OK. Funeral service will be 2:00 P.M., Saturday, July 19, 2018 at Pryor Creek Baptist Church. Moore's Southlawn 918-663-2233
