Juanita Shook

Juanita V. (Nita) Shook of Tulsa, 94, passed away Saturday, April 21, 2018 after a long battle with Alzheimer's. She was born, one of 4 children on September 12, 1923 near Siloam Springs, Arkansas to Jesse S. Brooks and Opal A. (Maberry) Brooks. She left home in 1936 and took a job in Fayetteville, Arkansas working for the president of the University of Arkansas and his wife, who were expecting a new baby. She was nanny, cook, and housekeeper until the new mother was able to take over care of the household. She and a friend then hitchhiked to Tulsa to start their new lives. After several years of working hard, she met and married Odell N. Shook on June 26, 1948 and together they raised 4 sons. Nita was a beautician in Tulsa for many years (Nita's Beauty Salon), and then obtained her real estate license where she both purchased and sold properties until she retired.
She was preceded in death by both of her parents, her husband Odell, her son Johnny, her grandson Sam and 2 of her brothers, Doyle Brooks and Darence Brooks. She is survived by her brother Dale Brooks of Benicia, California; 3 sons: Jack (Susan) Shook and Steve (Sherry) Shook, both of Tulsa, and Roger (Kathy) Shook of Claremore, in addition to one daughter-in-law, Debbie Shook of Houston, Missouri and a multitude of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
