Obituary

Judith Ann (Jensen) McCoy died October 25, 2014 after a feisty battle with a rare and aggressive form of ovarian cancer and leukemia. Diagnosed in September 2011, Judi fought this disease for over three years with a strong spirit, a sense of humor and the never-ending love and support of her husband, other family members and many friends. Born in Pocatello, Idaho on April 22, 1952, she attended high school in Twin Falls, Idaho, before receiving a dual B.A./B.S. degree in philosophy and psychology from the University of Utah. She was a member of both the Phi Beta Kappa and Phi Kappa Phi honor societies. After graduating with highest honors from the University of Tulsa Law School, she joined the Conner & Winters law firm in 1980. She focused her practice in the areas of securities regulation, corporate and partnership law. After leaving the firm in 1996, she refocused her time on pro bono representations, charitable and community work.

While working for Conner & Winters, Judi met the love of her life, Bob F. McCoy. They were married for 27 years prior to her death. Judi and Bob shared not just a deep and long-lasting love but many common interests that kept them on the move. Their many adventures together included fly fishing (locally and also in Alaska, the US northwest, Chile, New Zealand, the Caribbean and Christmas Island), snow skiing (in the US and also Switzerland), golf (as members of Southern Hills Country Club and during numerous travels), scuba diving (primarily in the Caribbean), canoeing (on local sporty streams as well as an extended trip just south of the Arctic Circle), backpacking (at home and abroad in Austria, Italy, Switzerland and New Zealand), horse pack trips (in Wyoming) and road cycling, both together and with good friends (in Oklahoma, New Zealand, from Mobile, Alabama to Niagara Falls and around the State of Vermont), to name some of their favorite activities together. Thanks to a very talented trainer, Judi also enjoyed watching their Morgan carriage horses be shown over the past nearly three decades, garnering multiple World, National and Regional Championships with them along the way. Judi also greatly enjoyed her volunteer involvement with the Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma, other area charities. Judi lead the major capital campaign for the Food Bank expansion, and she continued serving as Board Member Emeritus until her death. Judi was an avid golfer, always striving to improve her game. She enjoyed her tournament work for the 2001 US Open Championship, the 2007 PGA Championship and the 2009 US Amateur Championship at Southern Hills. Another particular treat was hosting three foreign exchange students, who, along with their families, have remained life-long friends (Oliver Luebke from Germany, 1989-1990, Igor Belokrinitsky from Ukraine, 1994-1995, and Anna Marshall from Germany, 1999-2000).

Judi is survived by her best friend and ever-loving husband, Bob, their beautiful grandchildren (Naomi, James and Juliet Nicholson of Colorado) and their parents (Colleen McCoy and James Nicholson), her brothers and their wives (John and Anna Dee Jensen of Idaho, and Dave and Karen Jensen of Colorado), their children and grandchildren and other dear family members too numerous to mention. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Judi's name to the Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma, Inc.

A gathering in celebration of Judi's life is scheduled for Monday December 1, 2014 at 1 p.m. at Boston Avenue Methodist Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
