Obituary

Julia Ann Greenlee, 87, passed away Wednesday, January 1st, 2020 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was born to Herman William Dose and Flora Ann (Whitfield) Dose, on September 7th, 1932 in Overland Park, Kansas.

Julia grew up mostly in Oklahoma City, OK and Gainesville, TX, but lived in Tulsa since 1953. She graduated from Classen High School in Oklahoma City. She attended Oklahoma A&M College for only two years, but remained a Cowboy all her life due to her father's influence. Julia earned a Bachelor's and a Master's degree from the University of Tulsa.

She worked as a secondary school English teacher in the Tulsa Public Schools for 25 years, including the years of court ordered integration and was in the first wave of integrated teachers. Julia taught at Anderson Middle School for three years, an experience she found priceless.

Julia married Robert Lynn Hope in 1951, and they shared 49 years of travel and adventures, before his passing in 2000. They raised a family, square danced, traveled extensively, worked on a refugee resettlement and served at three different churches. Bob was a good provider and generous with his earnings. He was always involved with his children, as they grew up. He encouraged Julia and provided for her while she finished her college work and became a teacher.

In 2002 Julia married Oscar Eugene Greenlee. She believed God brought them together, and blessed their marriage and family.

Although her family moved a lot as she was growing up during the Depression and WWII, there was always one constant factor in her life. It was the Methodist Church. She belonged to nine different congregations and drew sustenance from all of them. They provided her with opportunities for education, inspiration, spiritual growth, leadership and friends. Julia thanks the members of the Wesley class for allowing her to teach the class for a number of years. It kept her mind working and her faith fresh and strong.

In the last years of her life she enjoyed and was sheltered by the Oklahoma Methodist Manor. Because of the Christian foundation of the staff, there was quite enough love for everyone. Her life was rich and full of people, books, music, laughter and tears. Praise be to God.

Julia will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.
