Obituary

Juliette T. Sylvester was born July 29, 1939 in Lake Charles, Louisiana. She was the daughter of Neil and Renee Tuthill, who were from Jennings, Louisiana. As a young woman, Juliette enjoyed the company of her brother Neil Jr., school and neighborhood friends, as well as numerous descendants of her maternal grandfather, Charles Houssiere, including aunts, uncles, cousins in the Jennings area and Southwest Louisiana. She especially enjoyed summer vacations in Estes Park, Colorado. Juliette graduated from St. Charles Academy in Lake Charles in 1957.
Juliette attended McNeese University in Lake Charles, Louisiana, then transferred to Louisiana Tech in Ruston, Louisiana. Juliette graduated in 1961 with a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education.
While growing up in Lake Charles, Juliette came to know a wonderful man, Lee Sylvester. They grew closer in love and faith, and were married August 5, 1961.
Juliette and Lee had four sons: Andre, Andrew (Andy), Allen Christopher (Chris), and Anthony (Tony).
Juliette was a devoted wife and mother, whose priority was taking care of the family. Her travels with Lee and the family included stops in Algiers, Louisiana; Houma, Louisiana; Lake Charles, Louisiana; Belpre, Ohio; Beaumont, Texas; Longview, Texas (twice); Malvern, Pennsylvania; Garland, Texas and Tulsa, Oklahoma. When Lee retired from his last company, Juliette and Lee enjoyed their retirement years. During Juliette's life, she travelled to Colorado, Florida, Louisiana, New York and Hawaii, as well as Italy, Yugoslavia and Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
During Juliette's years in Tulsa, she was active in her church, St. Bernard of Clairvaux Parish in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Juliette participated in the Peace and Justice Committee, and Juliette participated in many prayer groups and devotional activities. She loved her children and grandchildren, and participated in many events and holidays with them over the years. She especially enjoyed staying in touch with the grandkids through texting emojis and other interesting information.
Juliette enjoyed staying in touch with people, from former neighbors, friends in Tulsa, to friends from Lake Charles and Jennings, to the many cousins from the Houssiere branch of her family. Juliette enjoyed many phone calls and visits with this wide network of friends and family. She enjoyed the Houssiere family reunions in Jennings.
During all of Juliette's life, her faith was a solid foundation that served her in all aspects of her life. She often attended daily Mass, prayed the Rosary and Divine Mercy Chaplet, and continued learning about her faith through videos and other programs. She was familiar with contemplative prayer, and enjoyed this aspect of her faith journey. The many prayer groups that Juliette participated in were the source of friendships spanning over 30 years. In addition, Juliette travelled with Lee to Medjugorie, Yugoslavia to learn more about the messages being shared by the Blessed Mother Mary in that town.
Juliette is survived by her children, their spouses and grandchildren: son Andre and wife Ann Sylvester, and their children James and Mary; son Andrew and wife Sally Sylvester and their children Ruth, Martin and Anna; son Anthony and wife Donna Sylvester and their children Joshua and Julia; son Allen Christopher and wife Gloria Sylvester.
