Obituary

Karen Ann Bishop, 74, born on June 8th, 1949 in Beach, North Dakota, passed away July 13th, 2022 in the home of her son's family in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of Rex Knight Senior and Ludvina Knight, both of Wibaux, Montana. She married John T. Bishop III on December 1, 1973 in Farmington, New Mexico and from there, moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Mrs. Bishop most recently worked as a nurse in Beach, North Dakota, for Home On The Range, a healthcare facility for troubled teens. Prior to that, she worked as a nurse for cardiologist, Dr. John F. Coyle out of his offices in Tulsa, Oklahoma. In the past, she has also worked as an office manager for Tulsa Home Therapeutics and as an assistant for ophthalmologist Dr. Carl M. Fisher, also here in Tulsa. For many years, she was a cardiac and cancer floor nurse at St. Francis Hospital located at 61st & Memorial.

In addition to her son, John T. Bishop IV, his wife Aline, and their son, John T. Bishop V, Karen is survived by her sister-in-law Bettye Knight, her brother Rex Knight Junior and her nephews, Shawn, TJ, Al, Lee and their families. She was preceded in death by her loving husband John T. Bishop III in 2012, her brother Gary Knight the same year, and previously, by her parents and her older sister, Marlene Knight Lix.

Karen spent much of her time at the Tulsa Dog Training Club, where she trained her German Shepherd Cleo, Cocker Spaniel Bubbles and her Sheltie, Lady Emily (Emmy) in obedience and her Australian Shepherd Mya to run agility courses. She did many oil paintings over the years, entering and winning contests and selling them independently as a fine artist. Karen was also an incredibly avid reader of crime mysteries, bible trivia and many books of faith. In her spare time, she also enjoyed playing bridge, cross-stitch, coin-collecting, crossword and sudoku puzzles. Over the years, she donated to many noteworthy and charitable causes including Wounded Warriors and Samaritan's Purse.

Karen was raised in Wibaux, Montana. If anyone wondered where she found her lifelong love of horses and all things cowboy, there's no need to look any further than the Big Sky Country she grew up in, where the the horizon seems to stretch on forever. After raising a family with John here in Tulsa, her husband would pass away just shy of their 50th wedding anniversary. She would then briefly return to Montana, to live with Bettye, staying in her fully furnished built-in basement. While there, Karen worked at Home on the Range. Not surprisingly, she didn't stay for long and soon returned to Tulsa to stay with her son's family until she passed on this last week, God rest her soul.
