Obituary

Karen Jean Boevers Hicks was born to George and Vitace Boevers on September 11, 1938 in Hillcrest Hospital, Tulsa, OK.
Karen attended all 12 years at Union School and graduated from Oklahoma State University in the summer of 1959 with a BA in Education. While at OSU Karen was a member of Alpha Delta Pi and in the marching band.
While attending Union school she met the love of her life Gerald Hicks, and after she graduated from OSU in three short years they were married. Out of this marriage was born one son Gregory Hicks.
Karen taught at Lowell and Lindberg elementary schools in the Tulsa school system and in the Union School system for some 30 plus years of service. Bless her heart she never got out of 1st grade.
Karen was a life time member of the First United Methodist Church of Broken Arrow, OK, and taught Sunday School class, in charge of the children's department and President several times for the UMW. Karen also served as chairman for the churches bereavement dinners.
Karen was a member of many service organizations, including Kappa Kappa Iota and a 50-year honored member of the Philanthropic Education Organization (a scholarship organization).
Karen had been a 30-year cancer survivor but had developed very brittle bones and due to multi fractures she was unable to attend church the last 3 year of her life. She stayed busy by making over 300 hundred blankets for many service organizations including; Pearls Hope; and the Tulsa County shelter.
Karen was one of the sweetest and most caring persons you would ever want to meet. She helped anyone and always said "Why can't people just be nice to each other".
Karen was a second mother to many and a Godmother to several.
Karen was preceded in death by her beloved husband Jerry Hicks and son Gregory Hicks, parents George and Vitace Boevers of Tulsa, OK. Brothers Bill Boevers of Broken Arrow, and Jack Boevers of Baxter, MN. Brother and Sister in Law, Don and Carolyn Hicks of Broken Arrow, OK. She is survived by Sisters Clara Perkins and Nancy Boevers of Tulsa, Ok. And sister and brothers in Law, Barbara Boevers of Baxter, MN, Paul and Priscilla Hicks, Jerry and Kathryn Carr, and Russel and Patsy Christian of Broken Arrow, OK.
Karen was blessed with many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and many loyal and loving friends.
Karen was a loyal Oklahoma State University fan and leaves behind many beloved OSU friends.
What a wonderful world it would be if everyone could mirror our precious Karen. We love you and will miss you.
Family suggests memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
Visitation will be 5-7 PM, Monday, July 9, 2018 at Moore's Southlawn, 9350 E. 51st, Tulsa, OK. Funeral service will be 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, July 10, 2018 at First United Methodist Church-Broken Arrow, 112 E. College, Broken Arrow, OK. Moore's Southlawn 918-663-2233
