Karin Lohr Love, 69, passed away in Tulsa, Oklahoma on Sunday, December 9, 2018. She was born Karin Patricia Lohr on February 17, 1949 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Nelson and Joanne Lohr.
Karin was a single mother and raised her daughter, Michelle, while attending college and working full-time. Karin had a bachelor's degree in accounting and business administration from The University of Tulsa. She had obtained a master's in theology and recently her PhD giving her the title of Dr. Love.
She was a Tulsa Police Officer a long side her father Nelson from 1975-1982. After obtaining her degree Karin became an accountant for the Tulsa Performing Arts Center and later for the City of Tulsa.
Karin met and fell in love with James Curtis Love and they were married in 1989. Karin and Jim were together for almost 30 years. Karin retired from the city in 1994 but went on to work various accounting jobs until 2012.
For those of you that knew Karin, we say retired loosely as she was far from ever being really retired. Karin was an avid and dedicated volunteer. Karin and Jim were heavily involved and influential in the Masonic Community. After retiring from the City of Tulsa, Karin became a church volunteer and financial secretary. She used her accounting skills in many volunteer capacities. Karin was a member of the Calvary Messianic Congregation. She volunteered at the Oklahoma Home Community Education Organization, and served as treasurer for the Oklahoma Citizens for the Rehabilitation of Prisoners. She spent many hours at local election board voting polls and volunteering at many various volunteer organizations.
Karin had many hobbies and activities with which she was involved including arts and crafts, specializing in sewing, quilting, jewelry making and scrapbooking. Her talents were amazing. Karin was involved with quilting in Sapulpa and Keifer, the Beading Society, library volunteer and numerous prayer groups. She loved the color purple, Scottie dogs, Mary Engelbreit, Longaberger baskets, Coney Islander, Knotty Pine BBQ, Dallas Cowboys, the Beatles and most of all her grandchildren, Simon and Keegan.
She was well known for being a genealogy expert and helped families locate records and relatives. She spent countless hours gathering information, documents and photos for genealogy purposes, research and data sharing.
Karin absolutely loved her grandchildren. Simon and Keegan were the apple of her eye and held Karin's heart in their hands. She would always take them on fun "grammy" excursions and made special memories with Simon and Keegan along the way. Grammy would drive hours to attend their sporting events and was their biggest fan!
Karin and, her daughter, Michelle shared a unique bond as they were both the only children in their families making them both fiercely independent. Michelle describes her mom as unique, strong, intelligent, stubborn, generous, caring, one of a kind and a little kwirky. If Karin was involved in something, she was all in and gave 100%. She was organized and creative. Her talents spread over many, many things.
Karin's grandparents lived on a farm in Kansas where she enjoyed visiting and she will be returned to Kansas and laid to rest in Mound Valley. Karin is predeceased by her parents, Nelson and Joanne Lohr. She is survived by her loving husband, James Curtis Love of Jenks, Oklahoma; daughter, Michelle Rourke and her husband, Kenneth of Colleyville, Texas and grandchildren Simon and Keegan Rourke.
