Karl Lewis Swenson was born July 22, 1931, five minutes before his twin brother, Charles Lee at his Grandma Brown's house in Clever, Missouri.
Karl was preceded in death by his parents S.P. (Doc) and Vivian Swenson; brother Charles Lee Swenson; sister Linda Rackley & brother, Stanley Stearl and his son Steven Lee Swenson.
Karl is survived by his loving wife of 73 years, Gloria; daughter, Karla Deane Johnson and son-in-love, Rae Dean Johnson; granddaughter, Melissa Renee' Brese and grandson-in-love, Jonathan Ray Brese; Great-Grandchildren, Ariah Faith and Trenton Ray Brese and many precious extended family members and friends.
Karl's family moved to Tulsa when he was 8 years old. He went to Will Rogers High School until his senior year when he and Charlie went back to Clever to live with grandparents and graduated in 1949.
Karl was a baseball player, he played for Clever High School and Town Teams during his teen years. When the word got out that he was pitching they came from near and far. When he graduated there were 8 major league scouts trying to sign him to a contract. It came down to 2. His heart was with the Cardinals but the Yankees had the money! His first year was in McAlester, Oklahoma where he met Gloria Allison on the eve of his 18th birthday. They were married on June 10, 1950. He joined the Tulsa Police Department in 1957 and became a corporal uniformed officer. He was soon promoted to detective where he stayed until he was injured in 1969 and had to retire in 1971.
He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and the Tulsa Gun Club and he was a member of the Baptist Church.
Karl had many hobbies but he had a lifelong passion for fishing. Later in life it was golf and bench rest.
Visitation for Mr. Swenson will be Sunday, August 6, 2023 from 1:00PM to 8:00PM. Family will receive friends from 6:00pm to 7:00pm.
Funeral Services will be Monday, August 7, 2023 at 1:00PM in the Moore Funeral Home, Southlawn Chapel, 9350 East 51st Street, Tulsa, Oklahoma, followed by burial at Memorial Park Cemetery, Tulsa, Oklahoma.
