Karl was a baseball player, he played for Clever High School and Town Teams during his teen years. When the word got out that he was pitching they came from near and far. When he graduated there were 8 major league scouts trying to sign him to a contract. It came down to 2. His heart was with the Cardinals but the Yankees had the money! He joined the Tulsa Police Department in 1957 and became a corporal uniformed officer. He was soon promoted to detective where he stayed until he was injured in 1969 and had to retire in 1971.
