Bonded together by love for 63 years of marriage, Bob and Katharine Wackenhuth of Tulsa, Oklahoma, entered into eternal life less than 12 hours apart on Wednesday, November 25th, 2015. They were both 87 years old. Robert Charles Wackenhuth was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma on December 14th, 1927 to the late Charles Reinhart Wackenhuth and Blanche (Gibson) Wackenhuth. Katharine Lee Hibbett was born in Nashville, Tennessee, on February 5th, 1928, to the late Basye Kimbrough Hibbett and Mary Frances (Young) Hibbett.
Bob and Katharine met at Vanderbilt University, their Alma Mater, where Bob was a member of Delta Kappa Epsilon and Katharine was a member of Pi Beta Phi. They were married in Nashville on March 29th, 1952. After marrying, they returned to Tulsa to build their home. Bob served in the Air Force and worked for nearly 60 years as a Claims Adjuster and Owner of Wackenhuth Adjustment Company. Katharine was a devoted wife, homemaker, and a loyal volunteer for Meals on Wheels and several other Tulsa organizations. They were both active in the Kiwanis and Kiwanitas clubs and longtime members of First Baptist Church of Tulsa, where they were leaders of the Agape Community. They cherished time spent with their family, friends, and church community.
Bob and Katharine are survived by two sons, Michael Wackenhuth and wife Karen of Tulsa; and Mark Wackenhuth and wife Cheryl of Tulsa; four grandchildren, Katie Dawson of Tulsa, Christy Tanusaputra of Tulsa, Jordan Wackenhuth of Fort Worth, Texas, and Cole Wackenhuth of Tulsa; and one great grandchild, Henry Dawson. Katharine is also survived by her sister, Nancy White, of Tulsa.
Their lives will be celebrated together in a service at First Baptist Church of Tulsa, 403 S. Cincinnati, Tulsa, OK on Monday, November 30th, 2015 at 10 A.M.
