Katherine Gail Rice-Gibson

Katherine (Kate, Kathy) Gail Rice-Gibson was born on September 26, 1945, in Granite, Oklahoma to Alfred Gale Rice and Montana A. Rice-Strickland. She passed away Saturday, September 23, 2023, in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the age of 77 years young.

Katherine was raised and attended school in Lone Wolf and Hobart, Oklahoma and graduated from Hobart High School in 1963. She then went on to marry A.W. Gibson in February 1964. They moved to Tulsa in 1967.

Katherine became a mother in the seventies and while taking care of two children she went on to attend Tulsa Community College and obtained her Associate degree and became a Registered Nurse in 1983. She was a very active lady and accomplished many things in the Tulsa community. She was one of the founding members of the SANE Program (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner) that was established through a donation from the Ford Motor Division in 1991. She was on call for the SANE program just about every other weekend and would volunteer to take call for co-workers unable to work. She worked with the SANE program for over 20 years. At the time of her retirement from the SANE Program, she was awarded the Tulsa Police Department's Commendation Award for her hard work, dedication and contributions to the SANE Program and the Tulsa Police Department. She valued and cherished this rare and distinguished award very much (it was near and dear to her heart). Katherine also worked for St. Francis Hospital as a Labor and Delivery Nurse and retired from St. Francis Hospital in 2010. Katherine then went on to work as a contract nurse for The Ford Glass Plant in Tulsa. After Katherine retired, she volunteered at the Tulsa Police Department and assisted with their Domestic Violence Program and volunteered at the Tulsa Linnaeus Garden Center. She also worked part time for The Tulsa Community College as an Instructor for the Patient Care Technician Program.

She was preceded in death by her father, Alfred Gale Rice, her mother Montana A. Rice-Strickland, and her sister Merry D. Clark
Katherine was a loving and devoted wife, mother and friend to so many. She had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh. She was one of a kind, loved to dance, tell a good joke, hear a good joke or pull a good prank. She touched and enriched many lives from the many activities and programs she was involved in and a part of. Truly, to know her was to love her. We miss and love her very much, but happy she is with God in Heaven.

A second Celebration of Life will start at 11:00 a.m. with lunch to follow and then graveside on Saturday, October 14th, 2023, at Lone Wolf Methodist Church in Lone Wolf, 901 6th St., Lone Wolf, OK 73655
