Katherine Colleen "KC" Thomas
June 10, 1952 - January 16, 2023
Colleen is the daughter of the late Bob and Marjorie Cole Thomas of Fairland, Oklahoma, born June 10th, 1952 in Miami, Oklahoma. She passed peacefully Monday, January 16th, 2023.
Colleen was a fun-loving child with a big heart and a penchant for mischief. She exhibited love and an affinity for music at a young age. She picked up an instrument in grade 5, the trumpet. She became quite proficient and would eventually form a musical act known as "The Golden Tones" in high school. In addition to the trumpet endeavors, she also gained local notoriety performing as The Beatles where she aptly stepped into John's shoes. When she was not busy performing, fishing, going to school, going to church, playing basketball, or working in the local restaurants, Colleen could often be found pulling pranks and causing a ruckus with her best friends, Marti and Peggy Lee. Being silly and making others laugh was a trait she would never grow out of.
After graduating from Fairland High School in 1970, Colleen pursued higher education from NEO in Miami with trumpet in hand. However, a year later an unfortunate car accident left her unable to play on the level she desired. After much contemplation, Colleen enlisted in the US Navy where she would make many lifelong friends and rise to the rank of Chief Petty Officer. Shortly after the birth of her son she began to look for opportunities outside of the Navy. Using the skills acquired, she took and held positions at various government and tribal government agencies within the IT field receiving multiple accolades until retiring in Vinita, OK.
Colleen was an avid sports fan, particularly when it came to basketball and football. Rarely a game was missed when the Sooners or Kansas City Chiefs played. Her adoration for music showed through her eclectic musical taste across nearly all genres and eras. She had a soft spot for animals and had many fur-family members over the years, and donated to local animal charities. She was devout in her faith to Jesus Christ and enjoyed watching Dr. Charles Stanley's sermons. Her peace came in the form of sitting on a dock with a cold beer and a fishing pole. Colleen was a very passionate person. She loved life and she loved love.
Colleen is survived by her son and his fiance, Stafford Thomas and Sarah Myers; her sweet fur-baby, Keiki; her siblings, Duane and Dee Thomas, Choo and Susan Thomas, Brenda Shortt, and Linda Thomas. She also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews to which she was known as "Crazy Aunt Colleen."
We would like to thank her close friends, Donna Johnson, Janice Harris, Terry Stepp, and David Young for their support and being there to help when it was really needed. Per Colleen's wishes, there will not be a service. Mourn however you see fit, but also celebrate that she will live on in all of us.
