Obituary

Kathryn Louise "Peterson" Doyle

Kathryn Louise Peterson Doyle was born on the 26th day of May, 1931 in Humboldt, Allen County, Kansas to Vern Charles and Edith Kathryn Perkins Peterson. She passed away on the 6th day of May, 2021 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Between 1931 and 1934, Kathryn and her parents moved from Humboldt to Iola, Allen County, Kansas.

Kathryn had lived in Iola until she made a train trip to Tulsa, Oklahoma back on the 27th day of July, 1961 where she met her husband through a lifelong friend in Iola. On 27th July, 1961 she met Donald Edwin Doyle; they fell in love in just a few days and were married on the 1st day of August, 1961 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Donald Doyle was born in Iola, Kansas in 1922 and they both knew the Iola U.S. Post Office manager and that is the connection as to how they met. Donald and his parents had moved to Oklahoma in the 1930's. Donald and his parents still had family living in Iola and surrounding towns of Iola, but Donald and Kathryn had never met or even visited each other in Iola during the years prior to 1961! On 1st day of August, 2001, Donald & Kathryn celebrated their 40th Wedding Anniversary and Donald passed away on the 31st day of December, 2001.

Leslie Edwin Doyle, son of Kathryn and Donald, was born on 16th of April, 1962.

Donald and Kathryn operated a trailer park for over 30 years in Tulsa on East Admiral Place between S. Memorial Drive and S. Mingo Road, until Donald retired. Kathryn was a longtime member for over 45 years of the First Church of the Nazarene at E. 12th Street and S. Delaware in Tulsa, until the church closed their doors and the property was sold. Kathryn enjoyed talking with The Church of the Latter-Day Saints missionaries and other members of this church on different occasions since 2011, after Leslie joined the church in 2011. During Kathryn's older youth days during the summer months out of school she enjoyed taking road trips with her father in one of his semi-tractor trailers, hauling produce out of the Montrose and Durango, Colorado areas and hauling other freight in other areas of the U.S.A. at times. Plus her father (Vern) would also take Leslie during the summer months on trips with him in the semi-tractor trailer, and that's how Leslie got the bug of being a truck driver for 23 years also. Kathryn was a proud trucker's daughter and a proud trucker's mother. Kathryn had told the story numerous times to friends in Tulsa at church about the first time her father had taken Leslie out west into Colorado and how he was so scared at first when her father (Leslie's Grandfather Peterson) started driving up and down those mountains, mainly Wolf Creek Pass (one of the most dangerous mountain passes) and once the drive was over Leslie told his grandfather, "let's do that again!" Kathryn laughed a lot telling that story to friends and other family members!

Kathryn is preceded in death by brother, James Vern Peterson 1956, her father, Vern Charles Peterson 1990, her mother, Edith Kathryn Perkins Peterson 1995, her husband, Donald Edwin Doyle 2001, her other brother John Vern Peterson 2004 and grandparents and several uncles, aunt, cousins and many longtime friends from Iola and Tulsa.

Kathryn is survived by Leslie Edwin Doyle and she has lived with Leslie since the death of Donald; she is survived by other family members in the Peterson and Doyle family, just too many to mention, along with friends here in Tulsa.

Sincere thanks goes to David and Becky Myers, Brad and Cheryl Hansen, Keith and Callie Armstrong and Billy and Nancy Minter for the love and support during Kathryn's illness and loving support! Sincere thanks goes to Mike Henson and others that knew Kathryn during the time of 2011 to the present date for being so kind and showing their love and support to Kathryn!

Special thanks goes to Lola Edwards (Owner of Complete OK Home Health Care Service) for owning such a great caring company in Home Health service, Advantage service and Hospice service; Donna Justus, RN/Case Manager (Advantage service through the Oklahoma Department of Human Service Advantage Program) for being such a great Case Manager to Kathryn for several years and then Kelly, Tricia, Kevin, Misty, Tennie, Melinda, Tiffany and a few other hospice workers through Complete OK Hospice office for being such an outstanding help during Kathryn's time on Hospice and always being just a phone call away when Leslie needed someone to come into the home with help with Kathryn.
