Kathy Lyons Dorsey passed away peacefully at the age of 65 after a prolonged illness. She was born and raised in Tulsa by her parents, Paul and Abbie Lyons. As a child her favorite talking doll was "Chatty Cathy" which led to her lifelong nickname. She graduated from Edison High School and earned a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from Loretta Heights College in Denver, Co. She worked as an art therapist at the Shadow Mountain Institute and served as an artist in residence for the Arts and Humanities Council. She volunteered as a Philbrook Docent and also for the Tulsa Children's Theater. While she was doing graduate work in Art Therapy at Emporia State in Kansas she fell in love with Mark Dorsey and they married in 1985.
With her training she would psychoanalyze drawings made by family and friends, much to everyone's amusement and chagrin. A talented artist, she often encouraged group creativity which she called "Art Attacks". Kathy loved all kinds of music, especially classical. She was a colorful storyteller and had an excellent memory for little details.
Kathy was preceded in death by her husband Mark, her sister Jan Lyons Fentress, her brother Paul Lyons Jr., and her parents. She is survived by her sister Patty Lyons McNeer, brother Trevor Lyons and his wife Kathy, and brother-in-law Jeff Fentress, as well as eleven nephews and nieces.
Kathy's memorial service will take place on Saturday, January 27, 2018 at 10am at Boston Avenue Methodist Church in the Rose Chapel.
