Obituary

Kenneth C. Hager passed away peacefully on October 17, 2018 in his home in Tulsa. He was born July 1, 1932 in Cleveland to James "Harve" and Rose (Caldwell) Hager.

Ken enjoyed a long career in health care beginning as a laboratory technician at Hillcrest Hospital. He served as administrator for Oklahoma hospitals in Hominy, Hollis, Collinsville, and Cleveland. During the 60's and 70's Ken was an Associate Director of the Oklahoma Hospital Association and Director of the Oklahoma Council for Health Careers. From 1977-1995 he served as Vice President and Administrator at Saint Francis Hospital. Some of his accomplishments include the opening of new hospitals in Hollis, and Collinsville, the creation of Tulsa Life Flight, the Ronald McDonald House, a mobile Neonatal ICU, and the Physical Performance Center. During this 42-year career he was honored by being inducted into the American College of Healthcare Executives and served on the boards of several local, state, and national health-related organizations.

While Ken was building his career in healthcare, he also enjoyed changing from his suit to blue jeans and returning to his roots, working the land and raising livestock. From 1969-1985 he lived on a farm in Pawnee county raising his family and running a cattle ranch.

Following his retirement from health care, Ken pursued a childhood interest to work with wood. Once he was introduced to woodturning, he knew he had found his new niche and would follow in the artistic footsteps of his mother and sisters. During the past twenty-three years, Ken created numerous vases, bowls and vessels of all shapes and sizes. His art has been sold all over the world and most of the proceeds went to The Village of Hope in Ghana, Africa and other charities. He greatly enjoyed his hobby and honing his craft. He also enjoyed teaching others and having other woodturners drop by his backyard shop. Ken was a member of the Northeast Oklahoma Woodturners and the American Association of Woodturners.

Ken and his wife Jean have been active members of The Park Church of Christ for several years. He served in leadership positions for several congregations during his lifetime, including Garnett Church of Christ.

Ken is preceded in death by his parents "Harve" & Rose, his older brothers, Joe, Glen and Lester and his older sisters, Trudy, Eleanor, and Betty.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Jean, his children Mark, Elaine and Kyle, as well as son-in-law Jeff, daughter-in-law Julie, grand children Courtney, Madeline and her husband Liam, Logan, and Tyler, sister Mary Nell, and a host of nieces, nephews, grand nieces, and grand nephews.
