Obituary

Kerry Landon Freeman passed away November 25, 2023 at the age of 88 after a brief battle with cancer.

Kerry was born May 28, 1935 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Ralph Freeman and Catherine Rowlett Freeman.

He attended Will Rogers High School in Tulsa (Class of 1953), and was elected Governor of Boys State and Secretary of State of Boys Nation. Kerry attended The University of Tulsa majoring in industrial psychology (BA '57, MA '58). He was a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity and later was a multi-term president of the TU Alumni Association and Chair of the TU Alumni Association Heritage Committee.

After graduation, he worked in personnel for American Airlines and as a placement director for Skelly Oil Company before becoming a financial advisor, first with Stifel Nicolaus and Company and eventually with Morgan Stanley until his retirement in April, 2023. In 1981, he founded Capitalist Publishing Company, a financial advisory newsletter publishing firm and he and his wife Sue were co-owners of Carmel Creamery, Monterey, California.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of over 52 years, Sue Courtney Freeman, and his second wife of 13 years, Donna Jordan Freeman. He is survived by his three children, Kirk (Nancy) Freeman, Kevin (Marnie) Freeman, and Kelly (Scott) Luttenberg, 11 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren.

Kerry was an Eagle Scout (1949) and served as Assistant Scoutmaster with Tulsa Troop 26. He was Board Member and Oklahoma director of National Center for Constitutional Studies (the Freemen Institute). He was active in City Elders in Tulsa and a longtime member of Asbury Church and Executives of Tulsa. He was proud of his Cherokee Nation citizenship and recently received designation as a Cherokee Elder.

A celebration of Kerry's life will be held at Asbury Church, 6767 S. Mingo Road in Tulsa, at 1:00 PM December 15th. Donations may be made to Asbury Church Tulsa, The Cherokee Community of North Texas Scholarship Fund, or The University of Tulsa.
