Kristi passed from this life on May 9, 2024, after a brief illness, with her daughter by her bedside. Kristi was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on March 14, 1951, to Mesta M. and Hazel J. Alexander. She attended Holland Hall through 8th grade transferring to Central High School where she graduated in 1969. She went on to attend the University of Oklahoma, graduating with a B.F.A. in Art History. She would later complete her graduate studies for her Masters of Liberal Studies/Museum Emphasis on Administration and Management through the University of Oklahoma. She also completed the MBA Certificate Program with the Advanced Management Institute at The University of Tulsa in 1992. In 1998, Kristi completed the Collections Care Training Program through Winterthur/University of Delaware.
Kristi was an active member of the museum community for decades. She worked in several wonderful museums along her career, starting with The Thomas Gilcrease Museum, in 1989, as Registrar; the McClung Museum of Natural History & Culture, in Knoxville, Tennessee, as Manager of Collections and Registration and where she was also an adjunct instructor in Museum Studies. While in Tennessee she would act and interpret eighteenth-century hearth cooking for Blount Mansion and Ramsey House. In 1999, Kristi left Tennessee for The Baltimore Museum of Art, in Baltimore, Maryland, as a Deputy Director. Along the way, Kristi served as Chair of the AAM Registrars Committee, and more importantly, was one of the Founding Board Members for ARCS. She was a member of the AAM Accreditation Visiting Committee and an IMLS Peer Reviewer. Kristi eventually transitioned from museums to the Director of several historical societies in both Maryland and Arkansas. She spent the last 17 years as a highly-accredited and respected antiques appraiser.
Kristi is preceded in death by her parents, Mesta Merrit Alexander and Hazel J. Alexander. She is survived by her only daughter, Kimberly K. Moore, of Tulsa, OK, and her 2 dear grandsons, Alexander Merritt Waite and Zachary Micah Waite, and many family and friends who will miss her very much.
When Kristi was not researching antiques, she could be found with her many cats, a cup of hot tea and either a mystery book or reading about anything English. She had a passion for gardening with an amazing green thumb that populated her garden with hundreds of her beloved hydrangeas.
A committal ceremony will be held at Calvery Cemetery in their Prayer Garden on March 21, 2025 at 11:30 a.m. A Celebration of Life will follow at The Harwelden Mansion at 1 p.m.
