Obituary

Lahoma Wilson passed away early morning of Saturday, October 13. She was born December 5, 1921, Lahoma Langley in Wagoner, OK. She married Loyd in Muskogee, OK on May 22, 1940. She was a proud citizen of the Cherokee Nation.
Lahoma was a Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Storyteller and Volunteer.
She retired from the Tulsa Public School system where she worked at Barnard Elementary school and wore many hats. Some days she was the Principal's assistant, some days a nurse, and some days in the classroom as a surrogate substitute.
She loved telling the Cherokee, Creek and Osage stories she knew to children through-out the entire Tulsa Public School system. She would wear her traditional Cherokee cotton and ribbon dress with moccasins, teach the kids how to make fry bread, and tell the traditional stories she learned as oral history.
She served as a Docent at Oxley Nature Center, giving tours, participating in yearly bird counts, and teaching so many - especially about her favorite animal - turtles.
She was a long-term resident of Sperry, OK and a very active member in her Community of Christ Church adult and youth group programs at East Tulsa and at Skiatook.
She was a volunteer through the "Reading is Fundamental" program promoted in the Tulsa Library system and impacted many lives by teaching English as a Second Language.
Even though Lahoma was never famous, she touched so many lives and influenced young and old alike.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 78 years - Loyd Bernard Wilson, their children Michelle, Patricia, Kevin and Brian, and 1 deceased child Bernard. Grandchildren Danette, Tracey, Brad, Star, Heidi, J.L., and Gary. Great grandchildren Cory, Nathan, Jonny, Christian, Maddie, Shelby, Kyley, Kelsey, Dustin Jr and Ethan.
