Lawrence Robert Merideth was born on January 6, 1949 to Glenn L. and Leah Thorne Merideth in Oklahoma City. He leaves behind his wife Brenda Holland Merideth; his children Stephanie Merideth Freeman and husband Derek, and Andy Merideth and wife Angela; along with his brother Mark Merideth and wife Julie. He was know as Poppy to his three wonderful grandchildren, Nic and Zac Merideth and Maddie Freeman. Larry also enjoyed many annual Memorial Day picnics and July 4th celebrations with his extended family.
His education began at Northwest Classen in Oklahoma City, where he played football and baseball. He continued at Oklahoma Baptist University, graduating with a Bachelors of Science in Education in 1971. Two years later he completed his Masters of Theology at Southern Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky.
Larry's career began in Kingsport, TN as a youth and recreation minister, followed by positions in Oklahoma City, OK and Atlanta, GA, where he was ordained. The final 35 years of his career were with First Baptist Church of Tulsa, first as the Minister of Activities, and finishing as the Minister of Pastoral Care and Senior Adults. His ministry was vast, touching the lives of many. These ministries included youth trips, church family trips, SAFO, Fall Fun Festival, Day Camp, Little Dribblers, church softball and volleyball leagues, Grief Share, Stephen Ministry, In His Grip Golf, Oklahoma Baptist University Alumni Board, Caring Center, teaching Sunday School, baptisms, weddings and funerals.
Larry Merideth loved his family and his congregation. He didn't know a stranger and was typically the last person to leave the room. His favorite pastimes were fishing, hunting and playing golf. He and Brenda attended every possible recital, ballgame and band concert of all three grandchildren. They were the pride of his life. His legacy will ripple through generations.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 18, 2020 at 2:00 pm at First Baptist Church of Tulsa. Viewing will be at Moore Southlawn Chapel, 9350 E. 51st St, Tulsa on Thursday from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm.
