LaVaughn Sylvia Knutson, 95 years of age, passed away on April 21, 2023. Her passing is heartbreaking, but comfort is found knowing she'll once again be with her husband Creighton. LaVaughn and Creighton were married 72 years and together raised three children, Craig, Keith and Ann Marie. They met at a local dance in North Dakota and married at St. Mary's Church in Annapolis, Maryland, June 2, 1950, the same day Creighton graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy.
LaVaughn was born May 22, 1927 in the small town of York, North Dakota to Roy and Anna Hanson. She had one sister and four brothers, all of which preceded her in death. LaVaughn graduated in 1945 from York High School, Valedictorian, class of three(!) before attending Minot State Teachers College. There, she received a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in English. Although moves were many, and keeping up with three kids wasn't easy, she enjoyed teaching wherever Creighton's job took them. Manners were a priority but you needed to know a noun from a verb, too!
LaVaughn was a caring and thoughtful person. She loved sending cards for birthdays, anniversaries, etc., and seldom forgot one. Her beautiful smile greeted many Montereau residents each morning as part of her daily walk and many referred to her as "Sunshine". She never met a stranger and was always willing to help someone in need.
LaVaughn & Creighton enjoyed watching basketball, the KC Chiefs, Jeopardy and Lawrence Welk. The news with David Muir was a must and she ended every night with bedtime prayer. Prayers for family, prayers for friends and prayers "for everyone out there...have a happy, healthy, day and year." She will be missed by all who knew her.
LaVaughn is survived by her son, Craig and wife, Julie; granddaughters, Jennifer Helms & Family and Jennifer(Ryan) Engleman & family: daughter, Ann Marie Knutson and grandsons, Jordan Knutson (Laura) & family and Jeff Knutson (Crystal) and family.
In addition to her parents and siblings, LaVaughn was preceded in death by her son and daughter in law, Keith and wife, Stephanie; grandson, Chad Knutson.
A Celebration of Life Service will be 12pm Thursday, April 27, 2023 at Montereau, 6800 South Granite Avenue, Tulsa, Oklahoma.
