Obituary

Fisher, Lavern, 85, passed away Monday, February 4,2013 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Lavern was born August 5, 1927 in Muldrow, Oklahoma, to Welborn Woodward & Anna Leona (Sutton) Woodward. She grew up in Hanson, Oklahoma where she was raised with her ten siblings; three sisters and seven brothers.
She married Bill Fisher on November 13, 1945. They moved to Tulsa in 1949, to raise their family. After raising the kids, Bill and Lavern moved to Akins (north of Sallisaw) where she became a homemaker, but not just a regular homemaker, a Sequoyah County Extension Homemaker. She loved going to the meetings, where she shared her love of cooking, quilting, crochet and other arts and crafts, with her many friends. She loved being responsible for the operation of the Tea Room at the annual Sequoyah County Quilt Show: There she received many awards and ribbons for her handmade quilts.
Her husband, Bill, was named most supportive husband of the year in 1981, and she was named the Sequoyah County Homemaker of the year in 1983.
She was a wonderful cook, who enjoyed fixing Thanksgiving and Christmas Dinners for her family and friends. She enjoyed cooking for the church dinners and making peanut brittle, fudge, and divinity for her countless friends and family at Christmas. Lavern also worked at the Election Board, where many
others enjoyed her company, hard work, and baked goods.
Lavern, otherwise known as Granny, was well-known to keep her children and grand-children in line, and she was quick to help others see the error of their ways when necessary as well. And although Lavern was not the outdoors type, she doted on her hard-working cowboy husband and supported his love of their horses and farm.
Each of Lavern's children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were lucky enough to receive their own unique, personalized handmade quilt. Lavern also had many "adopted" grandkids, including the staff at the skilled nursing homes, where she and Bill spent their last few years. Many considered them
to be their own grandparents and referred to them as Granny and Grandpa.
Lavern and Bill were long time active members of First Christian Church in Sallisaw, where they also made many dear friends.
Lavern was preceded in death by her loving husband of 66 years, Bill Fisher, who passed away in August, 2012. She is survived by her three daughters: Judy and Nick Hunt, Linda and Tom Angleton, Jackie Fisher, and their son, Bill and Suzy Fisher. Seven Grandchildren: Craig Fisher, Brian and Katy Hunt, April
and Rich Carver, Keri Brazeal, Shannon and James Parker, Ryan Fisher and fiance, Jill, and Courtney and Bram Moffitt. Eleven Great Grandchildren: Kevin, Cherish, Alex, Hayden, Abigail, Sally, Ben, Chase, Susan, Dylan & Ethan. Adopted Granddaughter: Amanda Barrett and her children, Jon and Abby.
Sister: Betty and Floyd Hendrix. Sisters-in-law: Edna and Randy Slaughter, and Chris and Bill Talbot.
There are also many loving nieces and nephews, as well as many friends.
Lavern was also preceded in death by her siblings: Flossie and Carl Neal, Euel and Opal Woodward,Owen and Marybelle Woodward, Aubrey and Ruth Woodward, Leola and Bill Cheek, Johnnie Lee and Linda Woodward, Ray Woodward, Faye Woodward, and Watie and Loyce Woodward.
