Obituary

Lawrence Long, Jr. passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 30th, 2023.

Lawrence was born on January 4, 1931, in Chillicothe, MO to Lawrence Leslie Long, Sr. and Beatrice Marie (Anderson) Long. When Lawrence was a young boy, the family moved to Chester, CA where his father (a Master Mechanic), worked on logging trucks. He cherished his short time in CA, and often talked about sledding and trout fishing on the Feather River. The family moved back to Chillicothe to the Anderson Farm. Lawrence enjoyed farming and was very proud of his FFA accomplishments, especially his American Royal Reserve Grand Champion Hereford Steer.

Lawrence graduated from High School in 1949. On June 15, 1951, he married Dorothy Louise Wood. They made their home in Chillicothe and both worked at Lambert Glove Factory. The couple loved playing Bridge and were members of the Chillicothe Bridge Club for years. Through Bridge, they formed many close and cherished friendships. They also enjoyed time with family, especially Lake time.

Lawrence enlisted in the Army February 1952. He served his country in the Korean War until December 1953. The family is very appreciative of the help and care Lawrence received from the VA during his last few years.

Lawrence was destined to work in the Manufacturing industry. Lawrence's mentor, Joe Lambert started Midwest Glove Company in Chillicothe in 1963. Lawrence worked hard and became partner, then later owner/president of the company. Lawrence was forever proud of his work there.

Lawrence had 2 daughters, Deborah Lynn Long and Linda Lou Peterson. They were the apple of his eye. Lawrence enjoyed many hobbies - playing cards, golf, watching football, tending his yard and travel.

Lawrence left Midwest Glove and later moved to Tulsa, OK. Here he married Nellie Jane Long, and they were married for 25 years. Lawrence cared for Janie for years after she suffered a stroke, then passed in 2012.

In 2019 Lawrence moved to Woodland Terrace in Tulsa, OK. He enjoyed people watching and all the wonderful care he received. December 2022, he moved to Bella Vista, AR to live with his daughter Debbie.

He is survived by his two daughters, Debbie Long and wife Patricia of Bella Vista, AR and Linda Peterson and husband Marvin of Chillicothe, MO. Brother Vernon Long of Irving, TX. And Sister-in-Laws Josephine Long of Boerne, TX and Maxine Christopher of Chillicothe, MO. Stepson Don Wood of Jenks, OK. We are so grateful for all the wonderful organizations and people that took care of Lawrence in the last few years:

Essential Healthcare Services - Tielisia Boyd and team were AMAZING.
Valerie Hudson looked after him almost every day for 3 years, he couldn't have lived independently without her.
Trusting Hands - Thanh Hoang and her team.
The Oklahoma VA Home Base Primary Care Team, and especially his nurse Heather - they were always on top of his health and needs.
Adria with Angels Care in Tulsa, OK who checked on him twice a week while there.
Woodland Terrace and staff for providing a wonderful, safe place for Dad to live for 3 years.
Suzan Ewton for cutting his hair and keeping Lawrence looking sharp.
The Fayetteville, AR VA Home Base Healthcare Team - especially Julie Marsh and Nigel Napier who made many visits and took many calls to advise on Lawrence's care.
Visiting Angels in NWA - the team worked diligently to help with Care for Lawrence. Lawrence loved his Fridays with Leroy, and not sure what we would have done without Candice Kordeck, her help and advice were invaluable.
Circle of Life Hospice, we couldn't have asked for more help and support in Lawrence's last hours to make him feel comfortable, safe, and loved.
