Lennie Rebecca Wise, 102, passed away on February 9, 2026. Mrs. Wise was a lifelong resident of Oklahoma. She passed away in her daughter's home in Colorado.
Lennie Rebecca Leverett was born in 1923 in Rush Springs, the daughter of John William Jesse Leverett and Mattie Ianther Gibson Leverett. She was the fourth of their ten children. Lennie graduated from Slick High School, where she played on the girls' basketball team. After high school she worked in Bristow and Sapulpa.
In 1946 Lennie married George Curtis Wise and they resided in Sapulpa before moving to Tulsa in 1950. In their early years in Tulsa, Mrs. Wise assisted with Brownies, Cub Scouts, and PTA at the former Whittier Elementary School.
In the 1960s continuing into her 80s, Lennie worked at the former Perry's Food Store. She represented Perry's at Kendall-Whittier Civic Association meetings for a time. And she delivered Meals on Wheels for some years. During her retirement, Mrs. Wise spent even more time with her children and grandchildren. And she enjoyed crocheting and quilting home and personal items for them - baby quilts, christening gowns, Christmas stockings and tree decorations included.
She was a member of the session at the former Second Presbyterian Church. In 2001 she received the lifetime achievement award from Kendall Whittier Ministries, Inc. for outstanding volunteer contributions. She was later a member of Yale Avenue Presbyterian Church.
Mrs. Wise was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and by seven siblings. She is survived by her brother Doyal Leverett of Kellyville and sister Maudine Leverett of Texas; children Cheryl Wise Denham of Tulsa, Joanna Wise Barnes (Tom) of Colorado, and Gary Wise (Judy) of Owasso; grandchildren Tosha Schiffli and Alycia Denham of Tulsa, Brent Denham of Kellyville, Wade Barnes and Thomas Barnes of Colorado; and fifteen great-grandchildren. Lennie remained in touch with all of these and many other extended family members, church members, former co-workers and friends.
The family will host a visitation on Sunday, February 15 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Moore Funeral Home's Eastlawn Chapel, 1908 S. Memorial Drive in Tulsa.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 16 at 1:00 p.m. at Yale Avenue Presbyterian Church, 510 S. Yale Ave in Tulsa. Services will be officiated by Reverend Richard K. Davis. Pallbearers will be Brent Denham, Wade Barnes, Thomas Barnes, Chance Denham, and Chris Schiffli. Honorary pallbearer will be Gary Wise.
Interment will follow in Green Hill Cemetery, 400 E. Teel Rd in Sapulpa.
