Obituary

Alfred Leon Garoutte passed away on April 14, 2020, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Born in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, on April 20, 1923, he was the fifth child of Alfred and Ethel Garoutte. The family moved to New Mexico when he was young. He grew up there and worked on the farm after school and during the summer months.
In early 1942, just after the attack on Pearl Harbor, he went to California. He applied for a job with the U.S. Civil Service. He was accepted and placed in a position at Castle Air Force Base at Merced, California. He was transferred to Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1943 to help open a new facility, the 029th Air Depot Command, attached to the Spartan School of Aeronautics and later transferred to Douglas Aircraft Modification Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma, in 1944.
While serving there, he met and married Patricia Truax. He was released of his duties after the war ended in 1945. Leon and Patricia decided to make Tulsa their home and had two children, Keith and Jana. He pursued several sales jobs and in 1951 accepted a sales job with Gerber Products Company in Tulsa. After 34 years of service, he retired in 1984. The next five years they traveled abroad and in the U.S. including Alaska in their RV. After a long battle with ALS, Patricia passed away in 1990.
In 1992, he met another wonderful lady, Lois Cross. They were married in 1993. They enjoyed spending their winters in South Texas and their summers in Tulsa. Lois passed away in 2015.
Leon is survived by his son, Keith and wife Cathey; daughter, Jana and husband Bill Hamil, Charlene Stoltzner and husband Thomas and Kim Trigg and husband Jason. Granddaughters Amanda Hardt, Stacey Wolfe, Brandi Coleman and Kirsten Edwards and husband Bryan. Grandsons Curt Brasel and wife Christine, Patrick Stoltzner and Scott Wagner. Great-grandsons David Hardt, Mikel McCarty, Gibson Brasel, and Haven Brasel; Great-granddaughters Breyonna Wolfe, Alexis Wolfe, Zoey Renkes and Scarlet Edwards.
He accepted Christ Jesus as His Lord and Savior in 1956. He was a member of Christview Christian Church.
Viewing will be 10am-2pm, Thursday, April 16th at Moore Funeral Home - Southlawn Chapel.
