Lenora Oleta Cheek was born on July 8, 1926 to Roy Bailey and Nora Sims Bailey in Cove, Arkansas and passed away August 7, 2017. After the death of her mother, Oleta was raised by her maternal grandparents, George Sims and Emma Fortner Sims.
Oleta attended Cove Schools, graduating from high school in 1944. She enrolled in nurse's training at Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. She completed Nurse Cadet training in 1947, graduating as a Registered Nurse.
Oleta married Clinton F. Cheek on October 17, 1947 in Amarillo, Texas. During their marriage they lived in Amarillo, Texas and Little Rock and Fort Smith, Arkansas, moving to Tulsa in 1967. In 1953, their daughter Mary Michaelia was born and in 1957 their son Brian Clinton was born.
The family joined Christ Methodist in 1968 where Oleta and Clint remained life-long members.
Upon moving to Tulsa, Oleta continued working as a Registered Nurse. She worked in post-partum at Saint Francis Hospital from 1968 until her retirement in 1990.
Oleta is survived by Mary Cheek Staat and husband Paul Staat of Tulsa,and Brian Cheek and wife Teresa Cheek of Shawnee,Oklahoma. Her grandchildren are Katherine Staat, Jason Smith, Emily Crooks and Nicholas Staat. Great Grandchildren are Lucy and Riley, Lincoln and Lauren and Lilly and Karley. She is also survived by nieces, nephews and friends at Christ United Methodist Church and Oklahoma Methodist Manor.
Service will be held 2PM, Thursday, July 10, 2017 at Christ United Methodist Church.
