Obituary

Leonard Edward Barnes was born to Nora (Beck) Barnes and Jess Barnes on October 18, 1924, in Stuart, Oklahoma.

He met and later married Dolores Jones on August 2, 1945. In 1948, with the opportunity for work, Leonard and Dolores moved to Phoenix, Arizona where they resided until 1996 when they returned to Oklahoma to be near family.

Leonard took a job with Arizona Public Service Company and retired after 35 years as the area supervisor for natural gas transmission and distribution within the City of Phoenix Leonard was a devoted member of the Church of Christ all his life and at his passing was a member of the Eastside Church of Christ in Sapulpa, Oklahoma.

He is survived by his son Darryl and daughter-in-law Cheryl Cottrill Barnes. He was preceded in death by his wife Dolores after a marriage of 69 years and sister Teva Robbins and his younger sister Ruth Barnes, who passed at a very young age.

Leonard loved the outdoors and nature. His greatest enjoyment was hunting and fishing. His most pleasurable memory was of riding his horses around the country where he was raised. He was also a pretty good handy man. He could build or repair almost anything that required carpentry or metal fabrication, since he was a certified welder and equipment fabricator in his early years with Arizona Public Service Company. Most of all, he loved his Bible. Reading and studying the Bible was a daily routine. He loved attending worship service and at times would lead the song worship for the congregation. He loved God and believed in his promises. He will be missed.
